Memories of staying with friends in Brazil
Trapped in Brazil
There's an alcohol shortage in my life
I think I am going insane
Trapped at the top of these Brazilian stairs
I wish I had gone to Spain
Planned by South Americans
The party is in full swing
With samba music playing
And someone is ready to sing
What shall I do please tell me
To prevent falling comatose
The lack of cashasha in my blood
Is making me feel morose
But if I creep down to the kitchen
Someone will insist they teach
Me all about a lovely young girl
Who walks on Ipenema beach

A number of things I like so much about your poetry, YL. Your humour is contemporary and truly innovative and funny; your rhyming is wonderful; and your more serious poems, such as "Love for the Long Haul" and the one you wrote for Karren in the Field of Dreams thread, have a quality to your thoughts and expressions of them that hearken back two or three centuries to 'classic' poetry. They remind me of ones that I used to read in old poetry books when I was a little girl and would go upstairs and sit by the built-in bookshelves, just reading one after the other. It was before I knew of any such thing as infidelity or betrayal. It was when I thought and really believed that when you fell in love, really fell in love, you were in love forever and so was he and you were together forever [until death]. I guess it was what they now call "The Cinderella Syndrome," but what a beautiful space it occupied in a young girl's mind because it was a space where worries didn't exist because you were loved in that man-woman way that awaited you in your own future. Very idyllic. Those poems are reminiscent of that idealism that make loyalty, commitment, and lasting love givens. Those things seem more generally to be considered thoughts of women. It's very refreshing to see a man espousing them in his poetry. Thank you for that.
A take-off on "Real Men Love Quiche" ~ "Real Men Embrace Ideals." I hope [and believe] that Jean has been the recipient of some of your romantic poems on at least a few of your ongoing anniversaries

Re: Trapped in Brazil
Thankyou Lizzy for your kind comments . It is funny I have often thought that my poetry has an old fashioned feel to it . I sometimes wonder if I am reincarnated in some way . You say that the words I write are" more generally considered the thoughts of women" I bet that is not entirely true it is just that some men feel embarrassed by such thoughts and are reluctant to show their true feelings . This I can say because I am a bit like that but for some reason I seem to be able to express my thoughts in the poems I write . Strangely I also find it difficult to tell Jean how I feel about her so I write the poems.
You are right to say that I write two kind of poems some serious and some funny I think that reflects my personnality . I am either on top of the world or down in the dumps there is no inbetween with me and depending on where my mind is at the time reflects the kind of poems I write . I have written quite a few tongue in cheek short poems about the relationship of men and women and I am posting you one called "The worker ant" written on holiday in spain last year

Yorkshire Lad - It's lovely that you write your wife poems.
This poem was cleverly written and fun - poor you.

Thank you for your really thoughtful response, YL. Yes, I agree that more men probably really do feel the same way, yet don't share that for all those reasons that we've always heard that they don't. All of that still makes it really special when a man does share those feelings, and I would've been more accurate to say that it's considered more like a woman to share them. Yet, here you are with that old-fashioned sense that really does seem rare these days. So many things have changed, and those deeper levels of appreciation and commitment have to be there to be expressed. It's lovely that Jean has those poems in their tangible form to keep and reread, and I have a feeling that you come across with her verbally at least just enough to keep things going well
. I write far more easily than I speak, too, so I can really relate to that overall dilemma.
That extreme pattern of mood swings can be difficult to deal with. You're fortunate that you can function so well verbally at either end of the continuum.
Written on holiday? Alone and realizing the absence of tasks? Or, with Jean, and realizing your multiple trips to the lobby and beyond
?
Again, thanks for your thoughtful response, YL.

Haha. I was wondering why, at this destination, anyone in the kitchen would be telling you about the girl from Ipanemna, with Jean up in the room; though one can never discount the "Pssssst!" approach some might use in those circumstances < dirty dogs > .
