for a 'Sister' of Mercy

Dearest truest
Sibling Soul
Daring Dove;
I share my
Cup
With you
And thank you
From a
Heart of
LOVE!

So prone
So easy
to feel
ALONE
At this
Height
From which
I See,
Suffering
For those
Who cannot Be
or understand
of what or where
I am Free
When I describe
the View
of what is
True -
For where I am
They cannot
Know
Or See
The Way
while their
Fears
are mirrored
on the
Path
Slippery with
Clay

So prone
So easy
To feel
Alone,
To allow myself
to doubt
that what I
See
Is True -
though my
Soul Partner
Hears it too
And assures me
that I do

But still
I wondered
Is it only
Me he sees
Through eyes
of Loyalty
And Love?
Am I truly
HERE, above?

But then
I turned
And found
You
There!
Beside me!!
An answer to
A prayer,
I shared my
Pain
In trust with
You
(what sweet solace
to this weary space)
Reassuring me
That what
I knew
WAS True

But more than that
When I sensed
Your message
Was
'Look how far
You've come!'
I looked back
Down
On all that
I had Won,
Through the
Mists around
the Peak
on which we
Stood -
And God!
How high
It was
So good!
I hadn't noticed
My ascent
with others' sorrows
Ringing in my head
Thinking them
Much closer than
was so -
So far below

'Twas just my senses
Growing more acute,
Despite all their defences
Let no lie refute
Base metal can transmute!

The Answer was
So clear and plain
Far, far below
who True Love feign
I cannot go
back
down again
Though
to sacrifice
the Speed
I've gained
Still worth
the
Pain and Hope
They WILL come
Up
To me
But I can only
Call
And shine the Light -
If they
Choose
To See and Hear
They must
Climb
sans fear
To where
I AM - - There's no free ride to the Other Side!

This was written to a beloved friend, angel, and authentic Troubadour, Gary Dymock (1958 - 1998)
In loving memory... "not departed or gone".
He brought me that song...and many more of Leonard Cohen's.
