Remembering the feel of her hand
in mine as we walk along the cool white sand
of the lakeshore listening to the waves
washing up – a quiet white noise – slaves
to the simple setting of the sun
warming over us. We were one
in the heat of the moment as two can
sometimes be. Cleo ran ahead pouncing
on the wavelets, Atticus following, running
happily behind stopping now and then to look
back at us. We took
our time in the joy of their playfulness
and in the places that happiness took us
while waves washed our footprints from the sand.

"Clarence said a striking thing about rowing that I've always valued ... that he liked rowing because you were approaching life backward. You could clearly see the past, and you glanced quickly at the future over your shoulder.' Jim Harrison.

Nice, very nice. I'm transported right into those lines, that place, the feel of the hand in mine...
