Just A Dream - Take 2

Post by carm »

Tired of waiting for some miracle to come, I worked diligently in an effort to cut corners so as to shape my time more wisely. At the juncture of the first corner I stumbled upon an hourglass. It consisted of two glass chambers placed one above the other connected by a narrow tube. The top chamber was filled with a fine glitzy powdered sand that seemed to flow magnificently into the lower chamber. While peering in, I noticed that as the sand hit the base of the hourglass it erupted into a dizzying frenzy of tiny question marks which slowly and quite magically disappeared into thin air. I was bemused. What was going on here?

As the sands of time continued falling from my fingers and my thumb, I brought the hourglass closer to my field of vision. I was anxious to see what would become of the last few specs. Suddenly, without any warning the hourglass escaped my hold and went crashing to the floor. A cumulous cloud of smoke began to form. And then, quite unexpectedly, a lovely dove appeared. It was as though it had been held hostage, locked in time, but was now free to fly, to make its grand escape. Precisely at that same time, silence enveloped me and a distant voice approached, very faintly rising and falling in the air. Ever so swiftly I was pulled into a trance. Enshrouded in song, I clung to its embrace. Welcome, welcome, cried the voice. I'd love to have you as my guest. Please, come in. And he began…

Baby, I've been waiting,
I've been waiting night and day.
I didn't see the time,
I waited half my life away.
There were lots of invitations
and I know you sent me some,
but I was waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.
I know you really loved me.
but, you see, my hands were tied.
I know it must have hurt you,
it must have hurt your pride
to have to stand beneath my window
with your bugle and your drum,
and me I'm up there waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Ah I don't believe you'd like it,
You wouldn't like it here.
There ain't no entertainment
and the judgements are severe.
The Maestro says it's Mozart
but it sounds like bubble gum
when you're waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Waiting for the miracle
There's nothing left to do.
I haven't been this happy
since the end of World War II.

Nothing left to do
when you know that you've been taken.
Nothing left to do
when you're begging for a crumb
Nothing left to do
when you've got to go on waiting
waiting for the miracle to come.

I dreamed about you, baby.
It was just the other night.
Most of you was naked
Ah but some of you was light.
The sands of time were falling
from your fingers and your thumb,
and you were waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come

Ah baby, let's get married,
we've been alone too long.
Let's be alone together.
Let's see if we're that strong.
Yeah let's do something crazy,
something absolutely wrong
while we're waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

Nothing left to do ...

When you've fallen on the highway
and you're lying in the rain,
and they ask you how you're doing
of course you'll say you can't complain --
If you're squeezed for information,
that's when you've got to play it dumb:
You just say you're out there waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

It was as though it had all been a dream, cornered there within those few seconds of time. I certainly hadn't expected such a miracle to come. I haven't been this happy or felt so free! Now, when they ask me how I'm doing, surely I'll say I can't complain! But wait, was it all just a dream?
