ME
After a domestic with my lovely wife in which she accused me of thinking only of myself it prayed on my mind so I sat and wrote this to try and justify my position:
ME
Me,me,me she said to me
It's me,me,me all the time
But the very fact that I am me
Makes attention to me no crime
After all if my thoughts were not of me
Who else would give a toss
For me there is no other me
I am the owner, the occupant, the boss
When I eat I am me when I drink I am me
I am me when I go away
I am me whatever the weather
I am me if I choose to stay
When I wake in the morning I am always me
I am me in the evening too
Me will never get rid of me
Me will never be you
I am on my own with the likes of me
And me is akin to I
So unless a metamorphis occurs
I am me until I die
ME
Me,me,me she said to me
It's me,me,me all the time
But the very fact that I am me
Makes attention to me no crime
After all if my thoughts were not of me
Who else would give a toss
For me there is no other me
I am the owner, the occupant, the boss
When I eat I am me when I drink I am me
I am me when I go away
I am me whatever the weather
I am me if I choose to stay
When I wake in the morning I am always me
I am me in the evening too
Me will never get rid of me
Me will never be you
I am on my own with the likes of me
And me is akin to I
So unless a metamorphis occurs
I am me until I die

Re: ME
OK, but what about that other 'me' of that other person of whom you are trying to argue your 'me' case against?
Are you saying, The 'me' in 'me' is extraordinarily patient and understanding, provided my 'me' gets its own way in the end.
I am reminded of a quote by Oscar Wilde: I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.

I wouldn't go too deeply into the meaning . It's just a poem !carm wrote:OK, but what about that other 'me' of that other person of whom you are trying to argue your 'me' case against?

Yes, I agree, but sometimes it is FUN to analyze such thoughts…

Hi Carm
Writing poems give me ( there's that word again) immense satisfaction and act as a kind of therapy in this troubled world but are you saying that my subconcious is really in control and there is a hidden message in my poems

Hi Phil
a 'domestic' with Jean.... neverrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I love your poem.
I was minding my grand daughter Jess yesterday and all she kept saying to me was ... me me meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
She is not yet 2 years old but a delight and I think she has this world sussed.
Keep writing, it is a pleasure to read and hope you and Jean are doing fantastic
btw... lovely to see our Wales thread is still going after 30 pages

So glad you like the poem . As with most of my poems it was written with my tongue firmly in my cheek but having said that there is some truth in the words . I trust Jess has been introduced to the music of Leonard you are never too young to appreciate good music . We are not blessed with any grand children at the moment but I am sure it will happen at some point . That is when you have to put "ME" to one side for a while as family are more important . Not yet two and already streetwise sounds good to me me me
168 Days to Kracow see you soon

Re: ME
Phil's poem struck a chord with me..it might not be the same chord but I think I know where he's coming from...the self awareness of 'me' and how that cannot be percieved by others...but 'me ' is what I am.
It reminded me of some poems 'what I wrote' many, many years ago when I first dabbled.
here's one ...
Different
One
two
three
and so on.
I'm one,
could be two,
but then again, three
and so on.
All the same.
All different.
I'm different,
to others the same.
She's different,
to others the same.
We're different,
to others the same.

Re: ME
In our awake state, our conscious mind is our awareness of ourselves as living beings. It is the "I am here (me is here). I am alive (me is alive) I think (me thinks). I feel (me feels)."Writing poems give me ( there's that word again) immense satisfaction and act as a kind of therapy in this troubled world but are you saying that my subconcious is really in control and there is a hidden message in my poems
Our subconscious mind is the deepest level of our powerful inner mind. Sometimes our good purposes and even our attitudes can very well be beaten by the strength of the powerful subconscious mind. But our subconscious is not really our enemy, because it will never do something that it considers noxious for us. But its point of view can coincide or not with the conscious mind and its strength can become our biggest ally, or our worst enemy. The decisions that the subconscious mind takes, cannot be defined as simply capricious, but adjusted to the subconscious logic or housed information from both inherent and inherit knowledge.
The subconscious mind consists of a field of consciousness, in which every impulse of thought that reaches the objective mind through any of the five senses, is classified and recorded, and from which thoughts may be recalled or withdrawn as letters may be taken from a filing cabinet. It receives, and files, sense impressions or thoughts, regardless of their nature. You may voluntarily plant in your subconscious mind any plan, thought, poem or purpose which you desire to translate into its physical or monetary equivalent. The subconscious acts first on the dominating desires which have been mixed with emotional feeling. Sometimes it can influence our behavior when damaged or allowed. Many people allow their subconscious to control their thoughts and actions, but with our conscious mind we have the ability to keep our subconscious in check.
"You never can tell what a thought will do
In bringing you hate or love –
For thoughts are things, and their airy wings
Are swifter than carrier doves.
They follow the law of the universe –
Each thing creates its kind,
And they speed O’er the track to bring you back
Whatever went out from your mind."
Poetry is one of the oldest forms of expression. It can soothe a broken heart, provide a melody to a love affair or even entwine historical facts. Your "Me" poem convinced "me" there were certain "me" feelings you and your "lovely wife" were bumping up against and in writing the poem you were simply being true to your feelings. As you mentioned, "you are the owner, the occupant, the boss, of you".
Perhaps there's a "You" poem on the horizon?

WHOW !! I will need a day or two to respond to that but loved the poem . You would pay one hundred pounds a session in Harley street for an answer like that . I will be in touch when I get my breath back

I like the poem and I can see that it follows the same theme . What interests me though is whether you think your poetry has improved with age or whether it is of the same standard but just about different subjects . I find subjects to write about that are rewarding increasingly difficult to find as I get older but I get the feeling you are finding it easier to write if your work posted on the forum is anything to go by

The poem was one of many I wrote at the time..and looking back on them now most of them show an immaturity predating impressionism. At that time I was away from home for the first time, I was a student studying maths but trying to dabble with poetry, I discovered Leonard Cohen and I fell in love (with my wife to be that is...not Leonard......but then again

Re: ME
phil and pete i like both your poems…....despite the risk of being psychoanalysed i will endeavour to bring down the tone of this thread with my own thoughts on the situation that poor phil finds himself in...…you will notice that besides never having mastered the art of poem making i am as usual taking jean's side …..
mr me and his wife are estranged
said his wife ‘cause he acts so deranged
his behaviour’s aberrant
and annoyingly errant
i just wish that he could be exchanged'

mrs me sends her ardent good wishes
and although i am quite capricious
she does not want a change
even though i'm deranged
for she knows i'll keep washing the dishes
