Sleep

Post by George.Wright »

Sombre like black lace
wear the evening gown of sleep and embrace
it tight against your dormant face
It is death's little brother
be carefull not to smother
your wanderings with your own mortality or anothers

And plunge into the dark depths of the ocean
follow sleep with piety and the ultimate devotion
learn the magical secret's of time and space
and forget them with the alarm's noisy face

And sleep is the ferryman to our overself
and dreams are the messages on the parcelshelf
mixed ideas upon wakening of interpretations
jumbled snapshot's of images instilled at every station

Chase your dreams and catch a falling star
click your heels and hope to go back to where you are
learning more here than you can in earth's living
a new dimension for teaching and forgiving

Then one day, if you are lucky, you will go to sleep
after praying to the Lord for your soul to keep
you will journey down a bright tunnel of light
never ever to return to your bed that night

Georges~

I like this poem.

The first stanza is my fave...very Cohen-esque ( i think )

As for the message, Dreams are so very important and a link to what we normally can't access in waking. But, i can't agree the best part of living is dying...which is what your last stanza implies to me (..."if you are lucky,...")

Am i misinterpreting this?

Thanks for sharing.

Hey George-
Great writing man. I love the above stanza. I'm not sure that the closing stanza is in reference to dying, but I'm not certain. Rebirth perhaps?

Thanks, Laurie and Epurcelly for your kind comments. They are appreciated. The last stanza is indeed a reference to dying. Most people would prefer to slip away in their sleep........

Oh. Gotcha. Dying in your sleep is the preferrable mode of death...not the best part of life...I had it all wrong. Thanks for clearing it up.
Regards,
Laurie
