The Webb Sisters sing with STING on his album, and perform on December 10 in Kent - I can't wait!
I saw info in 'Other News' on the charity event The Webb Sisters are supporting. I got my tickets really easily, just called KASBAH on 01474 536501 and the tickets arrived a few days after. Did you know you can meet The Webb Sisters first at Hattie Webb House between 6pm and 7pm to meet them in person, directions and the address are available from the KASBAH Office or via the internet - www.kasbah.org.uk. I wonder what I will say.........
What an absolutely wonderful evening in Gillingham!...and to think I almost passed on this. I had debated whether it was really worth taking an hours train ride from Central London to hear the Webb Sisters sing a few songs (Gillingham, Kent is quite a trip from Kentish Town!). Also the weather had been pretty bad until the previous couple of days, but I'm so glad i made effort - a hundred times over! It was also great to help support such a good cause (Kent Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus).
As I entered the Blues Rock Cafe, a guy filmed the two people in front of me and myself with a camera...The lady organising the event was very welcoming, and inside it was quite spacious with a good number of people, though less than I imagined. Near the bar I met up with Andy Barnes, the friend of mine who I can thank for encouraging me to go. After getting drinks we went across to the stage area. The stage itself was quite tiny, with just a few tables around it for special guests. Behind these was a raised platform, which would have obstructed the view of the stage for much of the venue. We made our way up onto this, and were joined by a camerman, Phreil and his wife (good to meet them for the first time!) and two young people in wheel-chairs. For a short while current pop music was played...Lady Gaga, Shakira and the like, and then it was announced that the Webb Sisters were due on.
Although they only played five songs, the Webb Sisters set was a totally magical and entrancing experience, I felt it was an incredible honour to experience such an intimate set from these girls who have left thousands of people spellbound with their solo spot on Leonard's concerts Included in the set were "Calling This a Life" and (possibly) "Baroque Thoughts" from the "Comes in Twos" EP. To conclude they played "If It Be Your Will" as beautifully as ever, and as an encore a song that they said they had been working through with Leonard - namely Simon and Garfunkel's "April Come She Will", which features in the film, "The Graduate".
Afterwards, fund raising took place...raffle tickets were sold, and goods auctioned etc. Signed copies of the "Comes in Twos" E.P. were on sale, and there was a buffet for those who wanted to eat. Individually, Hattie and Charley came out and chatted with people. I was quite astonished when Hattie (radiant in a sparkly top) said to me..."I recognize you. Is your name John?"! Next Graham Webb(the girls father) came over and introduced himself. He told me that he had a mild form of spina bifida, and that he had seen ten concerts on the Leonard Cohen tour, including some appearances overseas. After that, Charley came out and chatted at length. Both of the girls are even more beautiful close-up than they are when you see them onstage. It was an extraordinary privilege to meet them in such a relaxed and informal setting. In conclusion, one could never come too far for beauty of this kind!

Yes, it was definitely worth the trip down to Gillingham last night & meet up with John E to see the wonderful Webb Sisters and support a cause close to their heart .
The set was just over half an hour, and as they came on shortly after 8.30, it was possible to get a train back to London without having to rush.
It was nice to have the opportunity to say hello to them afterwards and get my cds signed. I really appreciated how friendly & engaging they both were (and their father as well).
And nice to meet you too although we had to go and did not meet Hattie and Charley. That song was definitely baroque thoughts I'm sorry but it is the only thing they have done that I really dislike, and them starting with that made me feel completely ... well .. things will get better for me! Sorry again Hattie and Charley for not liking your song, I like all the rest honest

Hershey - o you have the complete set list? (I get too absorbed in the music and never get round to making lists). When I wrote my post at about 2am on Friday, I had been listening to the E.P. and couldn't remember exactly which tracks had been played live.

Please don't take offence at my not liking "baroque thoughts". I don't like "Dance me to the end of love", but I still count myself as a Leonard Cohen fan. We don't have to like every single thing, surely...
As for it having the most plays on myspace ... perhaps that was down to the fact that until recently it started automatically as soon as you went to the page ?
