Back And Front

Back And Front

... i've looked at life from both sides now... (Joni Mitchell)

back

i ain't back. the words
are rusty still
and out of use
and useless.

dried prunes of lines
blue wines
rhyming whines
to signs

when will the rhyme
chime
like freedom's bell?

i
retiring, sigh
and go to hell

front

no front. just a face
with lines that canyon-like
cut the mirrored view
to splinters

music dies
the flag flies
over wounded children's cries.
i sonnetize

the pain
that will remain
but clumsily.

the way i mouth
is still uncouth
and silly

Thank you all!

A long time? Well, it "seems like only yesterday..."

Or to paraphrase YAOBDS (Yet Another Old Bob Dylan Song):
I'll be a long time coming
and I've been a long time gone
You might see me on your crossroads
When I'm a-passin' through.
Remember me how you wished to
As I'm a-driftin' from your view.
I ain't got the time to think about it,
I got too much to get done.
Well, I'm a long time comin'
An' I'll be a long time gone.

Teachers

So good to see you again, Dichter.

Who is it whom I address
Who takes down what I confess
Are you the teachers of my heart
We teach old hearts to rest.
