To all who celebrate it,

Happy Chinese New Year

!!! I loved the explanation of why the cleaning of the house takes place prior to the celebration, and the house is not swept for three days after, out of concern that one might also sweep out the good luck that came in with the New Year. How relaxing, too, after all the revelry, that the housecleaning can wait! I was listening to them talk on NPR this morning about your holiday. I've just found out via this link:
http://www.educ.uvic.ca/faculty/mroth/4 ... aboos.html about the no use of scissors
on New Year's Day, either, as this may cut off fortune. This link is the home page, for more information on this great holiday so steeped in rich tradition

May the Year of the Monkey be a good, if not wonderful, one for us all

!!!
Love and Happy New Year,
Elizabeth
