Not Poetry

Post by lizzytysh »

Everyone ~

This seems as fitting a place as any for posting this. Sometimes I get things from across the In-waves that are inspiring. This was one I got this morning, and want to share it for those who have yet to see it. It's reportedly a series of true-life experiences that incorporate a variety of valuable lessons. It's also evidence for some [including me] that there's more going on behind/above/around/inside this earth plane than we realize. Some things go so far beyond 'coincidence' that we are begged to consider the true possibilities.
His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.

"I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."

"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the door of the family hovel .

"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.

"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.

"I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of." And that he did. Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time, graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.

Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia.

What saved his life this time? Penicillin.

The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. His son's name?

Sir Winston Churchill.

Someone once said: What goes around comes around.

Work like you don't need the money.

Love like you've never been hurt.

Dance like nobody's watching.

Sing like nobody's listening.

Live like it's Heaven on Earth.

It's National Friendship Week.

AN IRISH FRIENDSHIP WISH:

May there always be work for your hands to do;

May your purse always hold a coin or two;

May the sun always shine on your windowpane;

May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;

May the hand of a friend always be near you;

May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
For my purposes, I'll call it International Friendship Week. I hope you enjoyed this.

Always,
Elizabeth

Dear Lizzytysh,

There may be "more going on behind/above/around/inside this earth plane than we realize" but this ain't one of them.

Whenever someone posts a story like this I am suspicious...I was once deceived by a e-mail story about Buzz Aldrin that turned out to be false.
I checked out some of the biographies available on the internet on Alexander Fleming as well as his own Banquet speech at the Nobel ceremony. I have not found this story anywhere at all. What I did find was that his father died when he was very very young and his eldest sibling (who was 14 at the time of dad's death) took care of the family. Moreover Alexander Fleming won a scholarship to go to St. Mary's.

If you can provide a suitable reference for this story I'll accept it , else it is to be classified as myth.

p.s. Now I see Moonlight's post.

Hi Kush and Moonlight ~

Next time, I'll put the disclaimer word, "reportedly," in italics for emphasis. It does appear to be tied up with a nice, neat bow. I wouldn't be surprized if it should turn out to be myth. Nonetheless, the principle and the lessons hold true, even if it is fictionalized. Equally amazing things have happened and been validated, and I've found some excerpts from fiction to be just as inspiring. Thank you for the link, Moonlight. The well wishes of friendship around the world still remain :D .

Always,
Elizabeth
