I have yet to title this piece. After spending four days writing 19 pages of heartbreak, which if anyone cares they can read the blog on my MySpace, but this was the first poem I wrote afterwards.
Your name it repeats as all hope retreats to the golden gates above
I now bid farewell to the old soft motel that housed my broken love
It was there that you smiled, and so all the while I wandered off the track
But you have moved on, yes, those years are gone; I’ll never get them back
A blue spark of hope, a kerosene rope, and the visions start to burn
Though hope is that noose that never gets loose I still hope you will return
The King and I hold swords to the sky and hold our hands to our hearts
Pierce the crown through with its visions of you in all of its wonderful parts
Now clouds all grinning, I am still spinning out of this heavenly trance
To think, my dear, I’ve always been here and never been given the chance
It was here that I smiled, and all the while you smiled as you turned your back
And you’re moving on with all but this song to seal up that fearsome crack
The mountains grieve for the heart on my sleeve that seeks your newfound shore
You know me quite less but I do confess that I know you so much more
In all of my doubt I just think about all the love your future will bring
I had nothing to lose, but when I heard the news I knew I’d lost everything
There is no recession for this heart in question, no foreclosure of its home
But what I invest of emotions repressed is now bankrupt and alone
And somewhere we smile and so all the while we torture this stoic fact:
I can’t set you free lest you give to me that want of loving contact
I look past my shoulder and now that it’s over, so sudden and unforeseen
I’m feeling so scared, lost and unprepared to continue the same routine
But by the same token there were no words spoken since you said you’d be breaking free
Though you may not care, for love I was there, but love was not there for me
And I should have known better
I should have known better…
