John the Baptist

Post by vagabondgovernment »

Hi friends. My name is john the baptist and i'm vagabond government. don't believe everything you've heard of me.

everything that i have i owe to leonard cohen. i'm somewhat of a newcomer to him, about a year or so ago...after years of meaning to listen to him. sitting up for days listening to songs from a room in tears perhaps saved my life. i was able to relive the experience with each new album i got.

Here's my song, john the baptist. to hear it and others of mine, you can visit my very amateurish myspace that due to other obligations i haven't been able to put as much time into as i'd like. go ahead and friend me or send me comments there if you'd like. http://www.myspace.com/vagabondgovernment

John the Baptist

On a moonlit floor we were dancing
To some words you sang before
You were singing a revolution
You were singing about salvation
You were just preaching boredom
With your laws made of paper

I came in from the forest
My name was john the baptist
I saw you were a viper
So I let go of your comfort
When you were finished
I went down to the river
Here now I sit
Awaiting a savior

Let’s burn down the city
To forget the past
While they’re Talking about all the money
There is to be had
I sleep on their electric ashes and
The wilderness approaches

You and your Babylon
And the gods of humankind
With violins in the background
Playing a parting tune
Gathering the water from
A holocaust lagoon

When I came in from the east
I suspected a mirage
People building castles
On the backs of friends as kings
While I sit watching the golden tides
Bring back in their sinking ships

They’re spreading rumors in the graveyard
Where at one time I did reside
Searching for men of action,
They shuffle in secret rooms
Building walls made of paper
To fortify their tombs

While I sit here in the forest
My name is john the baptist
Leave vipers for vipers
And join me in my comfort
Let’s walk down to the river
To search for a savior

Leave these empty cities burning
and find our future in our past
Let us sleep now on their ashes
And join the wilderness again
