Weybridge Meet Up

Post by Paula »

In the absence of anyone knowing anywhere to meet at Weybridge. I intended to just go straight to the site with a "picnic". If anyone has any concrete plans for a meet up it would be good. In the absence of that perhaps we can just have a gathering at the concert before the show (weather permitting).

If anyone wants my mobile number PM me that way we can just track each other down at the site.

Hi Paula,

I have spoken to the Mercedes Benz people on the phone. Apparently the main building on the site, in which there is one cafe, will be open before the show, so we could all meet up there, at least to start with.

A picnic is also a good idea, weather permitting, but to hook up with each other I suggest we meet at the cafe from 4pm onwards, maybe later move outside. I think they are not letting anyone in before 4 - though I plan to drive, and that's the time they will let cars in. People arriving by train, and coming on foot from Weybridge station may get in earlier - I don't know about that.

What d'ya all think? We don't have too many options in such an obscure venue...

I thought I read somewhere that it was not allowed to take food or drink of any kind into the event. Or was it just into the arena?

You may be right Linmag I have just noticed on that booklet that came with the tickets there is a refresment area inside.

The trouble is no one seems to know anything about the area or the venue I note they are letting us into the outside area at 4.

But it also occurred to me that maybe no one is particularly bothered about a meet up. Maybe it is just suck it and see.

Guess that's what we will have to do. I will PM you for your mobile and give you mine. I may be arriving with a couple of friends who have separate tickets from mine (not arranged yet).

Anyone else out there who is coming on Saturday 11th, let us know if you'd like to pre-meet at the cafe!

See viewtopic.php?f=35&t=14516&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a for earlier discussion of a meet-up. Hand and Spear by the station sounds good.

Do we know whether the Hand and Spear does food? We will be driving across and hoping to arrive around 2 pm when the car park opens, so would probably prefer to meet up somewhere on site providing there is shelter from the weather. The BBC weather site is predicting heavy rain in Weybridge on Saturday at the moment. I think John would also like to go round the museum if it is open, though it may be possible to tempt him away from old cars with the prospect of fresh beer :).

I just found this link http://www.handandspear.co.uk/index.html to the Hand and Spear website. They do indeed do food, which looks rather good though a little on the expensive side. According to Googlemaps it's about 5 minutes from the venue by car, or half an hour's walk (1.3 miles).

Linmag not just the old cars they have a concorde there too not sure if it is open on Saturday but I was planning on seeing this if it was.

I think I am just going to park up and hang around the site. Otherwise I think you have to trek into Weybridge itself and then get back (if you want to see Suzanne Vega)

Suemerlyn and I were tenatively meeting in the cafe around 4 and I think that is the best plan for me anyway.

Weather on Saturday?

Looking not too bad during the day and possible thunder storms in the evening that should make for quite an electric atmoshere

That looks like a much better weather report, Paula. I think we should book that one :).

I had forgotten about Concorde. I would quite like to see that myself. I'm also more inclined to hang around the site once we get there, so will probably see you in the cafe at 4 if we don't bump into each other before that.

The M-B site states that it will close at 2pm on the 11th July.

It's likely that the whole place will close in order to get rid of the M-B visitors before opening up again at 4.00 for LC.

If any of you want to visit the cars and Concorde etc then it might be a good idea to phone them first.
