I like your photo, Dem.
And your boat. When do we get invited for a ride?

Oh, Hydra, Hydra, HYDRA!!! Where is that unique treatment of a wall?? I'd love to see that. It reminds me of the house where the foreign owners insisted on installing a mailbox on it, when there is no mail delivery on Hydra  .

I want to walk up, walk down, sit on, lie on, and loll about on those red steps 8) :D 8) . And then have my picture taken there.

Actually Lizzie, And I don't think this has changed since I last lived there - there is no mail delivery for Foreigners on Hydra - but there certainly is for the Greek locals (Dem?) or as my old friend George Lialios asked me when I saw mail being pushed through his door slot one day "Do you really think 2700 people go to the post office every day!?? Of course we get our mail delivered!" Oops! I certainly enjoyed asking for poste restante every day while I was there and here's a little innocent reminiscence: when I went with Marianne one day she got not one, not two but three pieces of mail addressed thusly: "Marianne, Hydra, Greece." I said to a friend at the time "They say no man is an island ... but I know a woman who is one!" -AGT

 Aha... Foreigners... therein, lies the key word, and the distinction that wasn't made by the anecdote teller  . Thanks for clarifying.

That's a very sweet reminiscence of Marianne 8) . A great anecdote :) . Glad I mentioned the mailbox; might never have heard it if I hadn't. Oh, how it must be to reflect on those many memories you have of that time.

All good things to you, too :D .

I'm pretty sure the door is on the way to Mandraki beach, Lizzy, if you remember that (I was quite intrigued by it, as it was a door in the middle of nowhere, or almost). But I'd very much like to know where the red stair is, too; I swear I didn't see anything like that! Quite unusual, among all those white stairs.

jazz4111:
Unfortunately I am not a local :-(

But i assure you even these days
you just write the name of the recipient
on the envelope and just Hydra, Greece.

Lizzie and Laura:
The blue door is indeed on the way to Mandraki.

As about the red stairs: that's a secret :-)
