untitled - We are the Philistines, creating

Post by Cate »

I

We are the Philistines, creating
glyphs with our bodies.
Each touch, every movement forging
a new phoneme that we use to organize,
reorder and form our own language.
A dialect of only us; scribed
out on thighs, bellies and minds.

II

Philitas is locked in a phrase,
.....trapped.
His sun a candle. His bread, words.
From a room beyond
...vowels escape his lover's lips,
as she occupies herself
in another mans lines.

III

Alexandria burns.
Heat, flames and dust replace
the secret knowledge of fools.
All that can be done is to rebuild
the library from bits of knowledge,
gathered from strange lands.

----------------

* I - Philistines –may have been the originators of written language that used symbols to represent sounds.
* II - Philitas,a poet and scholar of ridiculously long words was so obsessed with his studies, he starved to death.
*III - Not all knowledge was lost when Alexandria burned, pieces still existed in other libraries thanks to scribes.

Note - I still have a lot of revisions to do on this - sorry I always post to soon.
