a short poem...for Myra

Post by piñata heart »

after the wedding, somebody's going to have to pop all these balloons

you never explained
those scratches and bruises
on your lily white legs.

it's not that you were keeping secrets,
i just never asked.

I really like this, Pinata. Well, except for the title... which feels longer than the poem ;-) . And extraneous... perhaps, just "after the wedding... " ?

Hi Lizzy!

As always, great to hear from you. I'm afraid the lengthy title is something I do regularly, so you're bound to see it turn up again. The inspiration comes from a few places. I'm a big American Music Club fan, and have always been fond of the way Mark Eitzel titles his songs. Songs like:

What Godzilla Said to God When His Name Wasn't Found in the Book of Life
Hopes and Dreams of Heaven's 10, 000 Whores
How Many Six Packs Does It Take to Screw in a Light

Part of it is also an homage to Bukowski, and his penchant for long titles. One of my favorite books of his is Play the Piano Drunk like a Percussion Instrument Until the Fingers Begin to Bleed a Bit.

I dunno...I just like the imagery and humor in titles like these.

if she did explain them
it would be
in predictable lily white verse

pretending to
be secretly
enigmatic
yeah, well, errrrm, hum, yeah, ok, I dunno, articulation is not my fing, who cares, SHUT IT YOU MUPPET, blah blah blah

Hi Thanks for posting PH.

I enjoyed it, it gets your imagination running.

Ignore Sue - she's just upset over a recent sex scandal at a high level competition she was preforming at, I mean competing at (that is, before being disqualified).

oh, I should point out that, that's just a rumor, I have no idea idea who started it.

Thanks for the kind words, Myra. For the record, I have little interest in Sue/Geoffrey. I always turn my collar up (scorch marks and all) to the bitter winds.
