Thinkin' About The Old Days

Post by John K. »

We met when I was twenty
She helped me to be myself
We married on a good day
I never wanted noone else

We had a boy and a girl
They played out in our yard
They graduated from school
And they always worked real hard

I’m thinkin’ about the old days
That’ll never be
Looking at the empty walls
And wishing I was free

Imagine Pop was still around
And Mom’s cookin’ in the kitchen
The gang’s watching football
And I’m helping with the dishes

I’m thinkin’ about the old days
That’ll never be
I found Christ too late
But I know that he’s here
He’s here with me

Just scroll down until you find my name, John Kloberdanz, and click it.

It's my fourth submission. The way it works: The moderators provide a title, and those who wish to participate write and record a song with that title. Then people vote for their favorites.

When they move on to the next songfight, this song won't be on that front page, you'll need to look in their archives and find my name and then click on that song.

So when I looked at this week's title I immediately thought of the idea of a song about "old days that'll never be". It started out being a love-lost story but that was too sappy, and then I thought of the "looking at the empty walls" line and my mind was made up.

Hope you like it. IMO, it's my best song of the year so far, but I think it plods a bit too much.

I love to speak with John
He's a pundit and a fraud
He's a lazy banker living in a suit
