I hope it is ok to post a poem written by someone other than myself. With the gcse's and A level results in the headlines recently and the constant speculation of declining standards in English along with comments on exams getting easier being the reason for so many students passing the exams ( must be galling to them in the least) I thought I would share this poem I read in the papers recently. Be warned it's not that easy to read at a first attempt.
COMYENICAYSHUN
Now, I torks a lot, an I reeds a bit
An I noes me spelin is bad,
But oo needs too spel in the junkyard
Ware I werks wiv my deer ole dad?
I wos lookin at the box wun nite
Wen I erd the noosman say
Ower ejercayshun as gorn downill
An weer in a veree bad way.
Ower good ole English langwij
In a nashunwyd servay
Wos fownd too bee deeklynin
So I fort eyed av my say.
Thairs nuffink rong wiv ower langwij,
Peepel unerstan me fyne
An if yew can reed wot I rites down
Ow come it's in deeklyne?
Now I doan doo much reedin
But eech day wivowt fayle
My misus reeds the powem
From owt the Dayly Mayle.
Wich promtid me too rite this powem
So evrywun can see
I can reed an rite kwite reesnerbal
an thairs milyerns mor lyke me.
Now I torks a lot an I reeds a bit
And I noes me spelin is bad,
But oo needs too spel in the junkyard
Wair I werks wiv me deer ole Dad?
If you think that it's hard to read straight off you ought to try typing it!
