Anne & I saw Arlo and his band last night at a very small, beautiful venue quite close to our house. Stoughton is a small town a few miles from Madison and this turn of the century historic building was recently renovated. There were probably not more than 200 people in attendance and Arlo put on his usual great show.
One new addition is that he is playing Tom Paxton's, "I'm Changing My Name to Chrysler" but he's changed the title to "I'm Changing My Name to Fannie Mae" with new words. It brought a very hysterical reaction from the crowd.
He also told a touching story about one of his first memories of his dad and Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter) in their back yard in New York. On a recent tour, they visited Leadbelly's grave near Shreveport, Louisiana. He mentioned how Leadbelly had done time for murder and how one of his band member's noticed that there were iron bars around the grave site saying, "Look, Leadbelly's still trying to break out."
Arlo and Pete Seeger are performing at Carnegie Hall at the end of November. If anyone has a chance to go-don't miss it.

Joe that sounds like one great concert.
Will be checking to see if he will be coming to Ireland this year as he has'nt been this way for a long time.

Hi Madflowers,
Yes, it was a really good concert. I don't see Ireland on Arlo's schedule so far, but he is going to the Tonder Music Festival in Denmark in August (sorry I don't know how to do the oslash) and the last time he was there in 2006, he did a few concerts in Ireland before hand. Good luck, I hope you can catch him.

Hi Joe and Anne
Enjoyed hearing about this. I am envious, sounds good and I wish I could have been there.

Hi Blonde Madonna!
Yes, I hope you and Jim can see Arlo sometime-I know that he has been to Australia before. Do I understand correctly that you are traveling to Cardiff to see another concert? You lucky girl! Please say hi to all of our great friends there. We hope to see them next spring if we can make the "Isn't it a long way down" weekend-though the financial crash here is making it more unlikely. We will plan for Krakow and look forward to greeting you and Jim there.
Warmest regards,
Joe

That was an amazing concert wasn't it? I loved every minuet of it. I have been listening to his music since I was little, then again that isn't all that long. I almost missed the concert all together, thankfully classes were canceled on campus for that Friday. If you are interested I found J. Guthrie's Youtube page, it has many of Arlo's songs, and a home video if I remember correctly.
