Nick Cave

Post by Paula »

I know there are a few Nick Cave fans on this board and I just thought I would point out on ITV "The South Bank Show" tonight at 11:15 p.m. it is dedicated to Nick Cave. The South Bank Show were the ones that first shown Leonard's documentary over here I think.

I saw Nick Cave in concert here (in Brisbane) last year and was very impressed. However, something which was perhaps more remarkable for me (having an interest in contemporary dance and a son who is starting his career in this artistic field) was the Sydney Dance Company production "Underland", which exclusively featured Nick Cave's music. I saw it recently and would unequivocally describe it as spellbinding and memorable! :D (Coincidentally, the music producer was Tony Cohen.)

You will find info about it here:

Cheers :)

Thanks for that information, Andrew. I love performance art, particularly dance, and will watch for it here, in case they travel to nearby.

I'm sure you would have been blown away by "Underland", but unfortunately it appears to be only for performance 'down under'! :(

However, if you go into the Dates & Venues portal in the link I provided initially, you will see that this dance company is doing a USA tour of its "Ellipse" production. I would say it would be very worthwhile trying to catch this show anyway, as I've never been disappointed with any of the Sydney Dance Company productions I've seen and I believe Graeme Murphy is a master of his art. Interestingly, "Underland" was choreographed by one of your fellow countrymen, Stephen Petronio and what a job he did of it! :D

Cheers

Hi Andrew ~

You're right. I read the link info, and "Underland" is exactly what I would love. It sounds like Petronio made this a statement piece. I saw Laurie Anderson and loved her. I see that he's worked with her, and, of course, her husband, ohhh, what's his name  ? However, with Petronio being from New York, I am suspecting that this may be its initial, trial run [in Australia] and will show up in other venues later. That's when I'll travel at least to South Carolina to see it.

"Ellipse" comes closest to me when it's in South Carolina [none too close]; however, a birthday present to myself isn't out of the question, either. I did it with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company about 10 years ago. If Petronio's into Nick Cave to this extent, I wonder if he might not do a production with Leonard's songs one day. I'll revisit the link and see if I can find an e-mail address to make that suggestion. The possibilities are awesome.

Well, to no avail. I went to Google and found lots of links. I can seem to be able to e-mail various venues where his company's performed, but not his company. Reading about him raises the bar for how far I'd travel to see him. Very exciting. However, e-mailing him seems to be another matter. If you feel inclined, Andrew, would you consider doing whatever one needs to do to get the e-mail address for him, and give it to me? I'd sure appreciate it. [Another issue is that when I click on "E-Mail Us," Eudora automatically comes up. I don't have Eudora, and have yet to figure out how to e-mail from it, or to even get it off my screen without shutting down everything else.] Any help will be much appreciated! Like an e-mail address I can just e-mail from Yahoo. Thanks~ :D !!!

I've also had no luck getting Stephen Petronio Company's email address. :? However, my detective work suggests that he is promoted or in some way associated with Rena Shagan Associates, as one of my searches indicated that contact with his company was through their address and phone number. You will find all their details, including email addresses, at http://www.shaganarts.com and you will also note (from their calendar) that they are not only associated with the Stephen Petronio Company's productions, but also the Sydney Dance Company's USA tour next year!

Cheers :)

Thanks very much to both of you, Andrew and Anne. I'll follow up on the links you've provided. Yes, very good news, Andrew, on Associates' handling of both.
