Heatwave

Post by Paula »

How is everyone coping with this heatwave? I don't know if it is down to global warming but I am glad we have seasons in England otherwise my brain would go into meltdown. And I haven't seen any birds (of the feathered variety) for weeks.

Still in a few weeks time we will be moaning that it is too cold 8) Can't wait.

I, for one, like my summers hot.
The problem with this global warming theory is that it forgets the fact that we had one of the coldest (and longest) winter this year also...
It's less and less spring, from what I see. Just winter and summer.

But I like it this way. If we're not swimming, we are skiing!

I'm sitting in the garden under a shade after going for a walk this morning in the mist only to then get lost with the mist gone and the sun blazing down.
We managed to find our way back to civilisation and a welcoming inn. A large glass of cold J20.. now that is a drink to savour..Orange and Passion fruit being my favourite..can't live without it :D

Have come into the house for some relief but will venture back out again and listen to the football on the radio. :D

By the way.. a sparrow hopped into our garden and stayed a short while. Luckily our cat is somewhere sleeping in the house.

Off to the coast tomorrow, we hope.

How's the smog in London Paula?

It is stifling Pete. I work in the City of London during the week and it is oppressive, hazy.

Today I struggled to a bootfair, put my lottery on, bought the papers and collapsed in the garden with an icy cold drink and that is where I am staying. The cat staggered to a shrub collapsed underneath it and I think that is where he is staying. He looks like a ragamuffin when he wakes up in this heat all dazed, ruffled and a lot thinner. 8)

I bought "The Full Monty" at the bootfair I might just flake out in front of the telly and watch that. It is either that or the "Manificant Seven" which is on the box and the only reason I would watch that would be to ogle Yul Bryner.

I'm with you on that Greta I am not into hot weather and you are subjected to an assortment of body parts as people try to wear as least as possible. Thank God leggings are no longer in fashion I will be glad when the crop tops and low slung trousers with thong strip showing are out of fashion.

I was wondering (and this is only to the British) does anyone have a milkman anymore I haven't seen a milk float for a few years.

Paula, yes I would agree there are some dreadful exposures of flesh that are not particularly attractive whenever the sun comes out here! and that applies to men as well as women!

I actually prefer to be too hot trying to be cool than the other way around though, but we are not really geared up to coping with temperates about 30C in Britain, so civilisation, and the train services just fall apart!

Whatever happened to Dairy Farmer? maybe he could comment on the demise of the milkmen?

Record temperature in your part of the country today 101 F
Was it warm enough for you????

There is a milk van which delivers in our street. Must be the one you are looking for.

Margaret

Keep away from the supermarkets...some men think they are on the beach there!!! :)

Was it 101F today blimey it was like a furnace outside. Is that the hottest day since records began? Back to work tomorrow it is gonna be murder on the trains

Pete do you still have a milkman are the containers glass?

You are right Margaret where is Dairy Farmer when you want him perhaps that is the problem the Dairy Farmers just disappear and take the milkmen with them :?

You are right about men being as much to blame for bare flesh. Why are men so proud of their beer bellies :?

I'm spending as much time as possible in the car, which is the only place with air conditioning 8) Doing absolutely no housework at all for fear of collapsing with heat exhaustion (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it). Drinking copious amounts of J2O (I prefer the orange and cranberry or the apple and melon), and eating large quantities of ice-cream for medicinal purposes. I had the brilliant idea of buying a fan the other day, but it seems the entire population of Gloucester was there before me, and none of the local suppliers had anything resembling either a fan or an air-conditioning unit available for love or money.

I think we have a milkman on our road, unless it's Ernie rattling his ghostly gold-tops at 6am every morning. (He drove the fastest milk-cart in the West, remember?)

I bought my wife a fan the other day. It only cost me 50p :D
It has a pretty design on it once unfurled but I can't find the switch. :)

The milkman delivers bottles of milk next door but we do not partake of his services ... now if he delivered J2O's then that would be different :D

Linda. how can you not prefer the Orange and Passion J2O's ????? it is nectar from the gods.

Today is more comfortable...rain and thunderstorms. 8)

OK Pete and Linmag what are J20s?

Pete I have an ecological fan it is a piece of paper which I have pleated and flick about in front of my face. It is a dual purpose fan when the weather cools I can make it into one of those pyramid games ad infinitum well until the paper disintergrates!

Paula
Now you tell me !!!! I could have saved 50p
btw
J2O pronounced jay two oh

made by britvic
in all good pubs and now appearing in some supermarkets

3 varieties
orange and passion fruit
orange and cranberry
apple and mango

I only drink the orange and passion.. the other 2 do not compare but my wife disagrees and goes for the apple and mango..same as Linda. Obviously us men need a top up of passion at regular intervals :)

I'm very amused by this British thing going on here...

But, don't worry, I'm sure you'll be back to: 'Bloody rain, will it never stop' in no time.

I'm holding my fingers crossed for you!
