Her Time.

I wrote this poem some years ago; the sketches/outlines having been penned to the repeated sounds of Leonard's "If It Be Your Will" (Austin 1988 live version). For some reason, the subject matter of the poem resonated with the song.
Birth, love, pain, death and hope are powerful themes. Please accept....


Her Time

This time delivered up,
scooped out by Caesarian cut
into a safer light;
not downward-stuck
like the last time.

She smiles as morphine takes
its drowsy hold. This time she'll feed
her when she wakes. Experts,
instincts tell her
no more next time.

She'll suckle hard and grow
in every way this time, she hopes.
In dreams she pictures how
the birth will go
when its her time.
