Your must for the Tour Set List

Post by tommylen »

After a bit of piddling about I have discovered how to post this subject.(Thanks Tony)

Ignore it on the other thread.

I was thinking about the set lists for the forthcoming tour and I wondered if members had any thoughts about additions they would like.

We all have our personal favourite and its a great feeling to see Leonard and his magnificent band-singers included- perform it live.

I was at the Edinburgh concert,an evening I will always cherish, and I will be at the two concerts in Glasgow in November.

The Edinburgh experience has kick started me and I am anticipating Glasgow with other long standing LC admirers.

I would love to hear Leonard sing "The Window" a song that I think is simply wonderful listening.

While not wishing to turn this thread into a "request for the tour appeal "I would be interested to know what other people would like to be on the set list.

A bit like the one that got away.

Thanks tommylen

It would be lovely to hear:
One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong
and
Joan of Arc

(if Sharon, Charley and Hattie don't like the female singing part, I could step in - don't worry, just kidding ;-) )

Leonard's most spine-tingling song never to feature on the Summer Tour is...
ALEXANDRA LEAVING - please let it slip between the sentries of the heart

THE CAPTAIN

BigChillers going on to Cardiff ( like us ) have missed the fabled Webb sisters' duet for IF IT BE YOUR WILL

I think that any set list should be left to the artist's appreciation and no one else. The audience will always request what they already know and the role of the singer is to perform the way he feels, as and when he performs. In general I would not mind if a set list differs every night. An artist can not be reduced to a juke box to whom people would ask to do the same song again and again. I know this way of acting does exist but who cares about how the pianist feels when asked to play 'Stranger's in the night' for thr 1001th time. That's what he is paid for ? I do not think so, an artist can be much more exciting when he can freely express himself and take his fans to unknown territories.

That said, I have my own LC's favourites - although it's hard so hard to choose - But I refrain from giving details except in a private conversation.

Tommylen, I guess you mean persnickity.
Thank you for encouraging but I just wanted to express my view and did not mean to itch you.

Come on now .Just enter into the spirit of the thread as it was intended.

What song would you like to see Leonard perform that probably wont make the set lists?

One that I guess has very little chance of making the setlist: Chelsea Hotel
One that might make it, if not every night: Famous Blue Raincoat
One that has not so far appeared, but for which I hold out high hopes: Alexandra Leaving

All of these have been previously cited, if not on this thread then on several others.

So, just to be marginally less dull (...sorry....), my wildcard: Ballad of the Absent Mare.

(Or anything else from that most sublime of his albums, Recent Songs.)

Chelsea Hotel ? Leonard performed that song in brussels, Oct 79 following a witty introduction and evocation of Janis Joplin.
It is difficult to imagine other singers covering this song but I once heard it sung by someone else ! Can not remember the name...so may be Leonard is thinking of performing it again.
