mood indigo

"You ain’t been blue, no no no
You ain’t been blue
Till you’ve had that Mood Indigo
That feeling goes stealing down to my shoes
While I sit and sigh – go ‘long blues"*

"Have you seen the old girl..."**

or that one
standing by the obelisk
waving her tiny handbag
in the shadows of the walls of red wigs
her high-heeled mind
and her laced belly exposed
to the stares of the forum sailors
at stake on the stairs to the house of honour
she just stands there quietly waiting
for kings to come and queendoms to go
throwing her ropes to catch the rapes
softly crying to her lap
cussing at the market with lilac lips
while flowing mascara deepens the lines
and it is almost night
-----------

* Duke Ellington, Mood Indigo
** Ralph McTell, Streets of London

Lizzy - you've never seen that woman. Maybe you have seen similar women in different places.

Boy, you sure coulda fooled me, Tom. In fact, you did! You certainly borrowed a number of details from someone's life, someone whom I've not actually seen, but have "seen." Yes, it would certainly apply to some I've actually seen, elsewhere, but that was definitely not my take on it. Too many details.
