If It Be Your Will - Webb Sisters

Post by dharma »

so, good peeps, you've heard the sublime ladies performing this song at various venues across the globe, and no doubt been rendered all soft and gooey inside, like one of those fondly remembered soft-centred sweets from your childhood, but it seems (aside from a possible live CD/DVD release) that we're only ever going to be able to rekindle this moment by listening to our favourite, albeit imperfect, bootleg recording.

i'm wondering, just a-wondering, how many of you would like a studio version of this song released? maybe on the next webb sisters' album, or as a bonus track on their next CD single?

if we all shout loud enough then maybe the sublime ladies will hear us... :D

yes, spot on, i also thought this version should be recorded - maybe even with Leonard on his forthcoming album ?

the power of this song in this version packs such a punch that i just trust that it will find its way on an album or ep or single.

when what leonard calls 'a kind of prayer' has someone of no religion like me, feeling what i can only call losely spirituality so powerful that plenty of tears of joy came forth, i just trust that it will happen :D

I was at the concert at the O2 on 17th July, and heard the duet between Leonard Cohen and Hattie Webb on the song "Take this Waltz". Taking my breath away is an understatement for what that did. There was a powerful alchemy there, and I am guessing that this song arranged this way was not done at every concert on this current tour?

I would love to hear this on a recording, as I am resigned to never hearing this again.

I love this song. Federico Garcia Lorca might have woken out of the grave listening to Hattie Webb. Beautiful lady, beautiful voice and more, magic harmonies out of this world, that Lorca deserves for his sublime "Small Viennese Waltz".

From listening to the Webb sisters, it seems as though no two songs have exactly the same arrangement, the presentation is fluid.

I was at two recent concerts, and at both occasions the audience went totally silent when the Webb sisters sang "If it be your will". Normally I don't like it when a favourite song is sung by anyone else but the Artist Himself, but I make a huge exception for this one. As I said on the Tour comments page, I can't wait for a DVD/CD set to be released of the World Tour. "If it be" will undoubtedly be one of my favourite tracks (unless LC doesn't want to risk being upstaged, I assume that this song will feature on it  )

Totally agree. The sublime Webb sisters really are ( even though I hate the corny title) on If it be your Will. Devastating. The O2 gig was so, so ,er, don't have enough vocabulary. Was completely spaced out last friday after the concert, could not get myself together until about 3pm that day.

Bless you Leonard.

I heard this song first from this site--and would have been very disappointed had it not been sung during one of the encores. The poetry, musical talent and the message--were all sublime in my opinion. I sometimes think of Leonard as a mystic, --where he gets his poetry from amazes me--much like the poetry of Rumi. Although I have not always understood everything he says, I keep coming back to it and it seems to speak to me. Sometimes bringing tears --at other times laughter. As one of my spiritual friends is fond of saying --If love is not rolling on the floor with laughter and tears, it is not Love. Whether Leonard is aware of it himself, or not, his lyrics touch my life in ways that the writings of some famous mystics do.

I am OK with their version, although missing Leonard's accents on some words, lines and meanings (what they missed), and it would be nice to release it on some tribute CD or their CD. The girls are of course searching for their own way of delivery and putting different accents to some other places in the lyrics.

But IMHO, on the Leonard Cohen show I wanna Leonard Cohen singing his songs.

I agree with you, Tom.

The Webb Sisters sound nice enough, but I would prefer to hear him sing his own song.

I've been to several of Leonard's concerts on this wonderful tour, and The Webb Sisters have received a 'standing ovation' almost every time for If it be your Will.
One is talking of MANY thousands of people. But you can't please EVERYONE!
The whole band, The Webb Sisters and Sharon help make this tour shine so much. Don't underestimate that - Leonard doesn't - which is partly why he is so gracious to the whole 'team.'
Look for the good .......and the variety of everyone's contribution.

The Webb sisters were amazing at Dublin and I think it would be a good idea for them to record this on their new album. Hattie and Charley are beautiful singers together and Hattie was indeed sublime on the Harp. Terrific duo and duet.
