Terrible T-shirts. Scotland or the world?

Post by themailman89 »

I was at the Edinburgh Concert in the castle which was amazing and while there I bought two t-shirts. I bought a large grey one with a picture of him on the front and an XL one with the tour locations on the back and some of Ring The Bells on the front. The sizes looked alright while there but when I got home I realised they were tiny! The large is easily a medium verging on small and the XL is barely large. These are unwearable for me and the person I bought the XL for because the size description is completely inaccurate. At £20 ($40-45?)each it is just awful.

So here it is. Is it just the merchandise people in the UK or Scotland that have done this or is everyone experiencing this? Is it an honest mistake or a terrible attempt to make money by selling cheap shirts at inflated prices? I fear it is the latter. I can't believe I wasted £40 on these t shirts.

If anyone else has had this I would like to know and if anyone within the UK who couldn't go to a show would like to buy them for £20 each that would be great too, I could send a picture if you wish. (Remember though, my large shirt is more like S/M and the XL is more like M/L.)

I have been trying to find out who the merchandise people were so I can complain but no luck so far. As an honest fan I feel ripped off. My £50 ticket was acceptable but this is not.

Thanks.

£50 for a ticket you lucky thing, mine cost £91.00

by the way what make are the t shirts, I print t shirts so I have a fair idea what is good and what is bad, sizes depend on make.

They appear to be made by "Teddy" or "Fanshirt", I'm not sure which is the brand. To be honest they are quite good quality 100% cotten t shirts it's just the sizes that are off. It also says they are "supercombed" what ever that is.

Thanks

ah fanshirt, they are usually good quality but i don't think they are pre shrunk. I have a few licensed shirts that are made by fanshirt but I prefer other makes i think they are a bit thin.

I was in Manchester and thought the tour merchandise very disappointing. The tee I bought outside for £5 was better, and yes I know some people will buy anything and think it heresy to criticise but couldn't Leonard have contributed a couple of pieces of artwork for the tees. I don't know who is responsible for the merchandise on this tour but they are not doing a very good job!

It is very easy to make really good t shirts at a reasonable price, so I don't doubt that the tshirt that honeyrose bought was superior to the official merchandise. A couple of guys working on their own could well afford to sell a good quality t shirt at £5 and make a profit.

I agree with honeyrose, that whoever has been entrusted with the merchandise has not done a wonderful job, not only with the quality(something that I actually have no knowledge of as I only bought a poster and a programme), but also with the delivery times. There is a possibility that whoever has been put in charge of merchandise is used to dealing with younger fans who don't really care about quality as much as a mark that they have been to the gig.

However I have a feeling that the summer tour was a trial run, and that the management are monitoring what is good and what is bad.

I expect the management are actually very pleased with themselves  the fact that they are selling so many of these items at such high prices is a very successful financial outcome for them.

yep you are right margaret, they must be surely happy with the outcome. I really do think in the autumn tour the merchandise will be much better, i am going to wait until the shirts go to my t shirt supplier and then get all of them.

Yes, I was at the sublime Edinburgh concert as well, and bought one of the "Tour Dates" T shirts. Being a slightly fuller figure than I used to be, I thought a Large would be OK for me, but they had sold out of those (who comes to Scotland with an inadequate supply of Large T shirts??), so took XL rather than Medium- I'm glad I did! The XL is what I would regard as Large, so I'd advise anyone buying one of these to go for at least one, if not two, sizes bigger than you think you need.

Oh dear, I bought a nice t shirt that fitted just right. But it hasn't been washed yet
Oh well, in the end it'll fit a teddy bear I suppose. I shall have to buy one and call it Leonard.

Just be careful how you wash it and it should be fine. Mine has been in a gentle wash at 40 degrees twice and still fits OK (the label actually says wash at 30) They are all smaller than the size you expect though!

I bought a "Ring the Bells" t-shirt in Dublin which was fine but the girl selling it did say they were skinny-fit so at least we had an idea they would be small. Have washed it a few times and it seems ok. Memorable concert..............

Dear Ariadne,
that is a lovely idea in itself! If I were you, I'd just do that and get myself a "Leonard" - teddy bear anyway, with or without the shirt... At least I know now what to call that old cute bear without a name that has been sitting around in my room ever since I was a child! Quite an obvious idea actually, but still, I have never thought of that; so thank you for that one ;-) !
