requiem

siamese sisters
iranian twins
they wouldn't live together
they couldn't be apart

siamese sisters
iranian twins
in love they lived until
death did do them part

siamese sisters
iranian twins
oh pray the earth at home
will harbor them in two graves

Tom ~

I'm very moved by your poem honouring the beautiful, Iranian twins, just as I was sadly moved by their death. What a tragic lesson for medicine for early separation. Seeing them smile so beatifically and full of life as they entered the hospital for the procedure, it's nearly impossible to believe that they died. At 29, they seemed committed to following through, no matter what. Even knowing that, it's difficult to reconcile. Your final, two lines introducing a thought I hadn't considered, and I wonder what actually were their final wishes.

It's very typically sensitive of you to have thought through and written such a poem. Thank you.

Nice poem of two people who must have been full of life to live as they did and very, very sad that together they died. I felt for them yesterday when the story broke and it redetermined to me, the strength and hope of the human spirit and the pathos of the togetherness they must have shared through no fault of their own.
Thanks for your poem, Tom..........
