Quick note as I know better than to get on the Forum when I should be getting ready for work...sigh. Looks like Hockeytown will be the best bet then for all of us pre-concert. After all these postings we need to meet Walsh! We can meet and visit, grab something to eat, maybe have a drink and then head early to the Fox! Post-concert if anyone wants to sit and chat for a bit then perhaps we could slip into the Centaur, The Town Pump or the Elwood where it will be a little quieter and we can slowly (hah) come down off our high!

All the best,
Diana
Hello, from a longtime Detroiter.

Before the concert, I think the best bet is to take full advantage of the early entry for forum members and tickets---(Thank you, Leonard, mgt, Jarkho and all) Ticketmaster sent an email reminding us to arrive early, that Leonard Cohen starts on time....

In Detroit, my experience is that no public event ever starts on time,,, Leonard's last concert here in 1993 was the only exception, so I expect he will indeed start on time again. ...

so I simply suggest that all arrive there early, park the motorized transport, and have a drink at the fox and check out the goods, and get the tickets in line etc. and get in the seats by 7:45!

Now, for after the concert, that sounds to me like a great idea, too---we definitely want to unwind and let loose after the concert! and the Town Pump seems to me more conducive to Leonard's fans than the HTC. I have not been to the Centaur or Elwood. Town Pump has nice bar areas, nice comfortable chairs and high tops and etc.
Waiting is so difficult, only 30 days or so to go!!

Hi Ken ~

I read this two ways: You got in. You didn't get in. Which was it?
Well, it's all about fan dedication! Boy did I need a hot bath after the show, I was still shivering after. I'm really looking forward to my first show at the Fox and of course Leonard!
A dedicated fan will wait in the cold in an impossibly long line for hours... until the show was over... still shivering... and needed a hot bath to counteract all those hours in line in the frigid cold. Now, looking to your first show [ever], which will be at the Fox.

A dedicated fan will wait in the cold in an impossibly long line for hours until they get a ticket. Going in for the show and being there for three+ hours still didn't warm you. You were still shivering after the show and still needed to get a hot bath. Now, looking forward to your first show [at the Fox].

It seems you must have gotten in... yet, I can't be positively sure. Which is it?

Hi Common Trial ~

Some of us will still need to eat... somewhere, so will need to plan to get to a restaurant even earlier, to allow ~ as you've suggested ~ getting to the pre-show gathering at the Fox in plenty of time to be able to take full advantage of the privilege. From what I've read, I'm still in favour of Hockeytown for that quick meal. Leonard is so precise in every way... on time 8) .

Will the Town Pump, afterward, still work for all of us I wonder? Walsh75, in particular.

MusicCityGypsy ~ Sure hope to see you there.

Walsh75 ~ You can't dictate us around, anyway ;-) . You oughta know that by now  .

Hehehe...can't keep me out :-) I got in late but in just the same. Leonard and company can warm my heart but the body stayed chilled.

Definitely not my first Leonard show (didn't we meet in Montreal too) but I have never seen a show at the Fox Theatre, and I want to see a show at every great theatre in the world.

I'm sure it will be warmer when I go for Radio City tix this time around :-)

See you there,

Town Pumps works fine. My buddy's car service is picking me up from the show. He always gets me from the less hectic traffic areas of Town Pump and Centaur for each Fox show anyway.

Greetings-

Everyday I come one step closer to seeing Leonard Cohen LIVE for the first time ever! I feel sorry for those who sit beside me, I might be crying and laughing and smiling all night i'll be on cloud nine and my emotions will be out of my control!!!

I am so excited about the show...we still haven't found a hotel though! I'm not stressing about it. Where is everyone sitting? every since I found out that we have close seats I have been trying to brainstorm about gifts for Mr. Cohen...I thought about a stuffed animal bird...on a wire then i considered a random racoon or possom and a long stem rose and a box of goo-goo clusters (that come all the way from nashville...ha) I'm open to ideas about this...I just figured I'd bring things from Tennessee, since he will be missing out on visiting i'm nervous about giving them to him while he is on stage, don't want to distract him with random gifts. I wish I had a list of some of his favorite things...I LOVED hearing about mr. monkey, wonder if he could use a friend...teehee

I feel like i'm staking detroit...I check for fun things to do almost everday! I'm overly (can I say it enough) excited!

I wonder if Leonard will be staying at the MGM grand, I would love to stay there it looks magical...I just can't spend another 300 bucks ha ha

Hi Cara,

Well, I'm not too sure about the racoon or the possum   . You would probably empty the stage if something like that landed there!

Mary is the master with gifts to the Maestro! Her little monkey, Fred, with the plywood violin is something which I think will never be matched! So glad that you've been following that thread and I think it's a hoot now that "Fred" is touring with the crew and is even registered on the Forum! In Phoenix Mary also placed on stage tea and oranges from China (which LC did not pick up), and a box of chocolates and single stem rose (which he did). Of course, the monkey was the big hit! If your seats are close enough I would suggest either the chocolates/rose (hmm, since he has a Nashville connection maybe the goo-goo clusters would work ;-) )....maybe another monkey friend for Fred....or your other suggestion of a stuffed bird!

You are in for the experience of your life! Don't worry about possibly crying/laughing/smiling/yelling! Wait till you see the reactions of some others! Woohoo!

At the Beacon I had a great seat in Row 6.....in Phoenix I had an awesome seat in Row 1 center and could almost touch Javier Mas!. However, in the Detroit pre-sale the best I could come up with was Row N...sigh. I know seats have opened up in the pit (think Row 4 is still open) but I'm starting to run out of money ;-) from all these concerts!

Hope you can also make it to Hockeytown Cafe for a little pre-concert get-together and something to eat, but if not, we'll all be in the lobby early for the will-call tickets, refreshments and merchandise table! We'll be doing something after the concert also. Keep watching!

Take care,
Diana

Diana- Thank you for the feedback and easing my nerves about completely blacking out from excitement at the show! I was the one who bought pre-sale tickets and my boyfriend got us tickets as well it's our 2 year anniversary and my best friend lives in Farmington, MI so he just figured it would be a good gift...great minds think alike (so greatful that we were able to sell one pair and keep the 2nd row pit seats!)

I am so thrilled I found this forum, you along with everyone else is so kind to the newbies like myself. I'm so thankful for the kind responses I've received from the members here, must have something to do with the type of people who listen to Leonard Cohen. (unlike the disney disboards that i often lurk around, often times too afraid to post in fear of the "experienced" forum members from the past biting my head off!)

Hopeful to meet many of you before and/or after the show, I'll be the Nashville girl in the little black dress with the goo goo clusters or possibly moon pies...ha I'll have to remember to bring some for my fellow Cohen fans.

I'll be the Canadian guy in Nashville to see Elvis Costello at the Ryman June 16th! I so wished Lenny would have played the Ryman!!!

Cheers,

I have't gotten tickets to Elvis yet, Cohen tickets put a damper on my ticketmaster fund this year! :) but that's A OKAY in my book...

We are still hopeful to get to the Costello show, let me know if you wish to meet up in Nashville. There is this place I LOVE called Robert's Western World (my favorite HonkyTonk in town right behind the Ryman) We will be the couple outside the stage door in hopes of getting a photograph of Costello and myself! I hear he's a real delight to meet, really friendly!

I just realized that this is the "Detroit bar before show" thread...sorry to get so off topic in this thread. My excitement has gotten the best of me.
I read the fourm everyday...sometimes many many times a day I just love being in the company of so many Cohen fans.

Hi Cara,

Well, another possibility has arisen for a "gift" to Leonard! Check out the Oakland concert thread. mnkyface placed a polka dot blouse on stage at the beginning of "Closing Time" and Leonard pickup it up and threw it across his shoulder! Since you are in Row 2 of the Pit, perhaps you could slip a polka dot blouse over whatever you're wearing and then rip it off and place it on the stage at the beginning of the song :D

Glad you are part of the Forum! Looking forward to meeting up with everyone!

Hi Rob,

Welcome to the Forum! Actually several of us aren't too thrilled with Hockeytown BUT we will be there early (5pm or so) so it shouldn't be too busy. It's mainly to have a bite to eat before the doors open early for the will-call tickets...then we were going to move over to the Fox as the merchandise table and refreshment areas will also be open...basically for Forum members as we have the will-call tickets. One of our members, Walsh, does not drive and relies on a friend and his daughter to drive him. He felt HT would be a little more family friendly for the daughter and I have no problem with that. Post concert we're sort of planning to meet-up at the Town Pump.

However, keep an eye on this thread as it's now one day less than three weeks to the concert :D :D :D , and everything will soon be finalized.

Look forward to meeting you on the 9th! If you haven't been to one of Leonard's concerts on this tour you are in for a treat! They are an awesome event...will take your breath away!

All the best,

Hi again Rob, Walsh, Ken, Cara etc etc,

I'm at work now and have been talking with my friend who is coming with me. She knows another couple who won (how lucky can that be!) 2 tickets to Leonard's concert! I've never been to Hockeytown but none of them care for it because it's almost impossible to talk without shouting. So, looks like what we (and that's just our little group plus Lizzy, unless anyone else wants to come) will do is eat at the Fox Grille around 5ish, and then head over to the Fox for the early in. We can then meetup with other Forum members in the lobby of the Fox. We are still planning on the Town Pump post concert! Hope this doesn't mess up other plans but this works best for us.

All the best,
Diana

ps...Common Trial...this now sort of aligns with your earlier suggestion! See you there.

Just point me in the right direction... or carry me there ;-) . I'm sorry if this means that Walsh won't be part of our pre-meet-up. Did your friends say that the noise still applies, even earlier, Diana?

We need to agree on a early-in meetup spot, so we can still find each other. I think I may just wear a name tag [of some sort]. It would be a bummer, after all this, to miss Walsh. With the way people are suddenly all crowded in together, you can so easily miss someone.
