No, I wasn't funny.

And I didn't mean to post it. It was an accident.
I clicked the wrong button.

Too much coffee.

~~

And no, it wasn't a joke.
It was the adumbration of a joke.

Which should have been a piece of cake.
But -
Someone left the cake out in the rain
And I don't think I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
You see;
--"linen", for "line", --was such a stretch
that it could only have worked if it was repeated.
Which it was. It was repeated 17 times.

But then the word "line" occurred.
Just once, so I wasn't sure if it was a mistake or not.
But it seemed to be a mistake. And whenever anyone makes a mistake,
-and I can point it out, - then it's funny when I point it out.
There's no question about that.

It was the way I pointed it out that wasn't funny.

But it wasn't supposed to be. I pretended that Sideways
had type "line" on purpose, just so you'd be sure to get the joke.
Because otherwise - in Sideways' estimation - you weren't
bright enough to get it on your own, without that hint.

And that wasn't supposed to be funny.
That was supposed to start a fight between you two.
Because I live for that kind of thing.

~~~~~
The reason it's funny when I point out other people's mistakes
goes back to the 1st grade. I always did everything wrong.
And everyone else always did everything right.
Until one day I did something right.
And everyone else did it wrong.
I assumed you knew that about me. Because everyone does.
In any case, that's why it's funny when I point out other people's mistakes since the 1st grade.
It's so unusual when I'm right and anyone else is wrong!
Everyone knows that.
In any case, that's what humor is supposed to be.
Unusual.
Funny. You're really funny.
What do you mean?
It's funny, you know.
It's a good story. You're a funny guy.
You mean the way I talk?
What?
It's just, you know. You're just funny.
You know, the way you tell the story.
Funny how? What's funny about it?
You got it all wrong.
(He's a big boy. He knows what he said.)
Funny, how?
Just, you know. You're funny.
Let me understand this.
Maybe I'm a little fucked up.
But I'm funny how?
Funny like a clown? I amuse you?
I'm here to fucking amuse you?
What do you mean, funny?
How am I funny?
You know, how you tell a story.
I don't know. You said it. You said I'm funny.
How am I funny? What the fuck is so funny about me?
Tell me what's funny.
Get the fuck out of here, Tommy.
Motherfucker! I almost had him.
You stuttering prick, you.
Frankie, was he shaking?
I wonder about you sometimes, Henry.
You may fold under questioning.
Mat James asked Ekta:
>Are you sure Ekta it is not a jumbled word for "Kate"?
She's the oldest of four children born to an obstetrician. After her (real name 'Ecto') came 'Pic', then 'Preg', with 'Nancy' coming last.
Sideways Sue
Your talk of Shakespeare's Sonnets made me wonder if indeed the Bard has been inspirational in your career choice.
At that pivotal moment were you perhaps impressed by Falstaff's lines from Henry IV Part 1?
I press me none but good householders, yeomen's sons;
and again
There's but a shirt and a half in all my company;
and the half-shirt is two napkins tack'd together and thrown over the shoulders like a
herald's coat without sleeves;
and the shirt, to say the truth, stol'n from my host at Saint Alban's, or the red-nose innkeeper of Daventry.
But that's all one; they'll find linen enough on every hedge.
Ekta,
are you a fan of Tagore?
"the steps that I heard in my playroom
are the same that I hear echoing
from star to star."
For I hear something echoing in your writing.
By the way, it is not 8) to mention the word "God" on this forum unless your name is Leonard.
One needs to know their place
in the scheme
of things. ;-)
There is also a lovely old quote that goes something like this;
" do not throw your pearls before swine
lest they trample them into the mud
and turn on you to attack. "
Then there is the one that goes;
" fools rush in where angels fear to tread
and so,
I come to you,
my love,
my heart above my head;
when we met,
I felt my life begin,
so,
open up your heart,
and let this fool
rush on in."
It's all fun, Ekta, so keep on posting.
thank you for your kind comments, damellon, but ironing is hardly a career choice but just how life has taken me
I try to make the best of it. anyway in this hot weather I at least have the chance to expose myself a little to a nicer world!
Greg asked:
Not to any great extent. Have never enjoyed the frivolity involved in board games. And, like the Roadrunner who invariably beats the Coyote, I always come out winning in the end - even when not trying. Meep-meep.
Dear Geoffrey, for very obvious reasons, your post here reminds me very much of the philosopher musings of the Norwegian Kierkegaard. Are you by any chance related? Anyway,I wondered if you could answer a question about him, please. As we all know, his father died on August 9, 1838 at the age of 82 and apparently before his death, he asked Søren to become a pasta. Do you know what type he had in mind, plain old spaghetti or something really exotic like fuselli? Doubtless it's code but what does it really mean?
I recall you having mentioned this Danish pastor earlier, and understand that you are reasonably informed about him. Yet, at the risk of being reduntant, I chance to add to your knowledge. Firstly, the word 'kierkegaard' means cemetery, or 'graveyard' (from 'church garden'). Hardly an attractive name. Secondly, Kierkegaard's first name is almost never mentioned; he is generally referred to simply by his surname. The reason for this is that 'søren' is a mild expletive, a swear-word - equivalent to 'damn', perhaps. For example, should a man of pure breeding lose a coin down a drain-hole he might say: "Søren!" - whereas a person of uncertain background would likely say: "Helvetes dritt!" (Hell's shit!)
very wise words indeed (even though you overlook that there were 2 graveyards in the conversation, hence the need for a forename to be used). I have taken the liberty of correcting your spelling above, I hope that was not a reduntant move.
I love it that you are giving us ?Danish swear words.
This is a serious enquiry.
Can a woman of pure/impure breeding (what on earth is that? - smacks of eugenics) also use these words, or are there feminine versions?
And if so, may I have them, please.
I used to have a Danish client, (I pressed her lingerie!) and she told me the best Danish swear word is "skidderik". I wonder if Geoffrey can translate it for us
