Unfortunately your 'knowledge' has let you down.
There are 30 unreleased tracks on that album.

There are only 28 songs on the standard 2 disc set of No Direction Home and quite a few of them are on other albums, perhaps not the originals but the song is on previous albums. As I said "bootleg"........ pull the other one
I guess it all started for me sometime around Christmas 1967 and now, goodness me, it's.........2018 and over fifty years later.
No one ever listens to me. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record.

That's the whole point you ****.
My copy has 29 unreleased gems, outtakes, live cuts, different versions. Material that is heaven to real fans.
To return to my original post, rather than your tedious semantics, it would be great to see a similar Cohen release

Nice, thanks, I bet you will be missed at the Manchester gig!!!
So Dylans management team have sifted through lots of his back numbers, then bung them on CD's and call them the bootleg series. And then expect people to believe they are actually bootleg even though they sell them legally through official outlets. Yeah right, you can fool some of the......

Going on your beliefs, LC has already got a "bootleg"............ Songs from the Road

Let's leave it that you are taken in by the Dylans "bootleg" name and I am not, that simple.

It's called 'The Bootleg Series' and is a nod to the fact that Dylan's 'Great White Wonder' was the first (rock/pop) bootleg. They are not called 'bootlegs', it's a generic title.
As they are issued by Sony only a complete **** would think they are pirate releases.
Maybe you, alone, do?

Anyway, you stick to your CDRs and let us proper fans look forward to nuggets from Len's back catalogue.

So ignoring the pedant, which tunes, live shows, outtakes would you like to see on there?

Speaking about "bootlegs" published by the artist himself, wasn't it Zappa who did it first?

From Wikipedia:
Beat the Boots is a collection of bootleg recordings by Frank Zappa which were originally distributed illegally but were released officially by Rhino Entertainment in 1991 as part of Zappa's campaign to dissuade his fans from buying illegal recordings of his concerts. The recordings were available as individual CDs and as an LP or cassette box set. The eight discs span a fifteen-year period from September 30, 1967 ('Tis the Season to Be Jelly) to May 21, 1982 (two tracks on As an Am).

I remember that Jarkko.

Best way to beat the bootlegs, that is what the artists have to do, bring out their own legal cd/dvd's.

Come on guys, can we get back to thread topic  - which I thought was an excellent idea.

Was looking forward to see what suggestions folks came up with.

Personally, I can't disagree with John E's choices. All of them excellent.

A complete list of Dylan's 'bootleg' series
http://learni.st/users/tyler.wilcox.9/b ... sterpieces

I take the point that they are official releases , presumably approved by Dylan who earns money from their sale (rightly so)
- so perhaps not really bootlegs . 'Previously unreleased masterpieces' for sure though, and perhaps we might think of it as buried treasure full of gems

The heyday of bootlegs ( proper ) was of course pre-internet. The world has changed. If you include downloadable material there is plenty of Cohen bootleg material in circulation - though mostly the ' endless repetition of live stuff' that JE mentions.

I'm sure there is a lot of stuff in the vaults - doesn't do any good there so for me a 'yes please' to the idea of the Leonard Cohen Bootleg series .Interest in his work has never been greater , so now is the time .....
Leonard's work resonates
