If it rains as Leonard sings, we will simply bask in the poetry of it.

Ken
The courtyard is quite small. I don't think a stage and 12,000 would fit there.
The prison is no longer serving that purpose - it's a museum.
By the way, for visitors to the Royal Hospital from elsewhere, it houses IMMA, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and I understand from Diane that damellion has agreed to lead a tour of the galleries before the concerts. I look forward to that.

I did the guided tour of Kilmainham jail a couple of years ago. The guide was a very enthusiastic young man who pulled no polictical punches during the course of the tour. As you can imangine his commentary didn’t exactly show we English in a very good light. When we were led out into the yard where James Connolly and the rest of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising were executed he asked anybody who was English to raise their hand.

Needless to say my arm stayed firmly by my side.

Anybody visiting Dublin for the first time should forget about the rip-off that is the Guinness Museum make a visit to Kilmainhan jail your first priority.

The excellent W B Yeats exhibition I believe is still running at the National Library so make that your second stop. Then take your pick from the Dublin Writers Museum which is right next door to the excellent Hugh Lane Gallery. James Joyce’s house is not far away from the Dublin Writer’s Museum. Take an afternoon to go around the National Gallery. Then and only then you can find yourself a nice little pub and have yerself a few pints of Guinness.

......and don't forget your umberella

Hi tiggs
'Fraid my place is full to capacity.
I know others are finding it difficult to get somewhere reasonably priced especially for Saturday night when Leonard co-incides with Neil Diamond.
Anyone who hasn't already got somewhere to stay should be giving the search some priority at this stage.
Or asking their parents if they have any long-forgotten aunts/uncles/cousins in Dublin city :) .

Hi All.
Damellon is right, everywhere is filling up and expensive.
Dublin tourism site is ok http://www.visitdublin.com/
and they have a few ideas.
Also hostelworld
http://www.hostelworld.com/hostels/Dublin
if you fancy a cheaper alternative.
Good luck

These are two good sites for hotels, I have booked with them a few times and got pretty good deals.
Could some of the Dublin members post what side of the city is best.

Good luck.

MFL - the best side of the city is the one you live on - mine's the North side :)

This is how fights start..... :)
Kilmainham is on the south side of the Liffey but because it's close to the Liffey it's also close to the north side.

North side South side what the heck . Last time I was in Dublin I was on my way back from the capital ( for anyone from outside ireland thats cork ) and the currency was still the punt. You know what ,you could even get 3 mars bars for that :-) Im so delighted that a small country like ours could still manage 3 gigs for leonard. I think we should kidnap him and keep him
