Hallelujah - Dylan

Post by kleeble »

I have an MP3 from a Bob Dylan concert in Montreal in 1988 of a cover version of Hallelujah - a nice gesture in Lenny's home town.

Apart from the version of the song in Shrek it is probably the best cover I have ever heard of a Cohen song, in terms of performance.

Does anybody know of any other LC songs that Dylan has covered?

As far as I know Hallelujah is the only LC cover by Dylan.

Question time: has Leonard ever covered a Bob Dylan song?
If not, why not?
That's two questions!

i've heard tales of leonard covering 'masters of war' - can anyone confirm this?

on the subject of leonard and bob, i recently got the new dylan 'live 1975' disc - the liner notes describe dylan being so anxious for cohen to bein the audience that he dispatched a captive journalist to leonard's house to drive him to the show. there was a short dvd with the disc, which has an audio version of 'isis' on. over the opening chords, dylan rasps, 'this one's for leonard, if he's still here...'

I think LC mentioned in an interview that he covered Dylan's "I and I" a more obscure Dylan song. Maybe Jarkko will be able to confirm it.

i read a story somewhere about a conversation between leonard, who had been covering 'i and i', and bob, who had been playing 'hallelujah'. bob asked leonard how long it had taken to write 'hallelujah'. leonard answered that it had taken about three years (or somesuch long period). seeing bob's amazement, leonard asked how long it had taken to write 'i and i'. 'oh,' answered bob, 'about fifteen minutes'.

this may be an apocryphal story, but i like it anyway.
