good morning ...
is everything ok
will i delete yesterdays
romp.

i was thinkin in my sleep
how did fecking god
get caught up in it ?

And then i remembered
He does have a sense
of humour

When he said
it was easier for a camel
to fit through

the eye of a needle
than for a rich man
to get into heaven.

so the moral of
the story goes give it all away
to the poor world

and have a bath
with two sexy ladies
all covered in soap

and you can all
slide through it
one at a time

IM your mannnnnnnnnnnnn

Or as Puck says:
"If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber'd here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream,
Gentles, do not reprehend:
if you pardon, we will mend:
And, as I am an honest Puck,
If we have unearned luck
Now to 'scape the serpent's tongue,
We will make amends ere long;
Else the Puck a liar call;
So, good night unto you all."

 This conjures such a great child's storybook, Alice In Wonderland, image... the needle's eye with the tiny soap-bubble-covered women sliiiiiding through... going through more than once... making a game of it... what fun :D !

isolated snow
momma bird takes to circles
cat yawns and licks paw

and here's the part where I write a little something about how c-h-i-c-k-e-n I am posting this. the part where I say that it might be close to finished, but doesn't quite feel right yet and I don't know if what I'm saying with those images is at all clear and does this count as "real" haiku? this is where my little shoulders come up so I can try to look smaller. the part where I know I should write this in a formI'm more comfortable with, that is, sans form. here's where I decide to just close my eyes and hit Submit, even though I haven't convinced myself.

I sure wouldn't want to say I know exactly what you mean, as that would be far too obvious and blatant and direct a form of expression, given all of your indirectness... however, if you want to go with empirical evidence, one might find some deductive form of reasoning to arrive at my comment, if one considers how little I've posted in the Book of Mercy thread and how little I've posted in this section with anything beyond my commentary as to how things I read here have affected me  .

One thing I can be grateful for in this section, however, is the Submit button... eyes closed or wide open.

Now, as for your would-be-wannabe-maybe haiku... what an image. Jimbo's eagle and my cat came together to create the thought, or something else triggered your thinking?

I'm trying to understand the vision of the isolated snow. Can you help me with that? So far, it seems that the cat has just mealed on momma's baby birds, and she is circling her empty nest... or, she is preparing to feed and the cat is, as well. The isolated snow may be the locale where all this is happening? It could also be something really obvious that I'm just missing, as that's happened a time or two  .

I love haikus and would love to learn to be able to do a proper one...I haven't had a chance to check those books of compilations of the masters, yet. So, I've no idea other than [my understanding] man and nature coming together in some way. Not sure if man needs to be included in the 'picture' or whether the act of observation is enough :? .

Thanks for yours, Manna. Maybe I can move beyond my cat caught in the shadows. One thing I think is great about trying to write haikus... even improper, unofficial ones... is that it forces you into concision with language, to express whatever you have in mind. In that sense, a great practice tool 8) . Fun, too :D .

A robin had built a nest in the walnut tree where I used to live. She had squawking nestlings. My neighbors had outdoor cats. One day as I was walking to the garage to get my car and go to work, I saw what looked like two or three large snow flakes on the ground under the tree. It was summer, of course, but it took me a minute to realize that it wasn't snow but feathers. Then I caught sight of mother bird, and her behaviour really impressed me. She was retracing her circuit. Do you know this about bird behaviour? When they forage, they often take a circular route. This bird went to a spot on the ground, then up to a neighboring tree, the garage roof, and back to the nest. I watched her do this several times. I thought I knew what she was thinking. I went here, then here, then here, and home. Where are they? This must not be right. Let's see, I went here, then here, then...

I don't think there was anything obvious that you missed, and I think other thoughts about this could work too. I'm just telling where it came from for me.

Oh, nooooooo... I was afraid of that :( . The baby birds' feathering was still white? No, I didn't know their retracing of circuit was part of their standard behaviour. A sad haiku. Nature. Very seldom, but still once in a great while, I find a dead bird in my yard or at my door  . The other day [when I was removing branches, as my neighbour was mowing my lawn], I found half of a bird's eggshell... I'd like to believe it had only fallen. I love nature; yet, there are parts I still hate and can't seem to accept.

I wonder if "snow out of season" might work there? "momma bird spotted circling"? Somehow, it seems, the baby's feathers still being white needs to come through, so the snow is properly contexted. I REALLY like the "cat yawns and licks paw" summation... it's what brought me to my conclusion; I just wasn't sure of my beginning step.

You've been up for suggestions before. Don't know if you still are here, or if these are even worth an owl's hoot :? .

Just read your add-on. I appreciate your telling me. I felt the need to do that with my cat in the shadow, too.

Good for you, Manna. What on earth is your avatar? Is it a molecular something?

black onions?
black string bag with ordinary coloured onions in it?
are you sure this is not a really interesting, but beyond the understanding of most of us, photographic record demonstrating the molecular structure of something amazing, that is to be included in your thesis?

Yes, I believe you're right, Damellon, that it is some kind of black netting with white-papered onions inside. It sort of resembles some new-style, black leather, boxing glove, as well.

Now, I know you may want to take yourself less seriously, and that your own, self-made photograph no doubt would look dynamic on a kitchen wall, particularly one with black appliances and, perhaps a black-and-white tile floor, like the restaurants in the 1930s-40s.

As an avatar, however, Manna... and, of course, the choice is entirely yours  ... how about a banjo or something 8) ?

This one comes frightfully close to looking like a black blob, about to break loose and take over the world  .

OR... you can stay with what you've got  .
