Listen Up Nick Drake and Tim Buckley Fans!!
Re: Listen Up Nick Drake and Tim Buckley Fans!!
Timmy!!! Sorry... hi Tim! I tried several times to download the podcast, but it wouldn't come up. I very much liked the article, though! Thanks for posting the link! I'll try it again later. I really enjoyed Gabrielle on the "A Skin Too Few" doc. And, thanks again for the previous Nick recommendations... I still need to check out the Patrick Humphries' bio, and I'm still looking for Keith James' covers online... no luck yet. And, sorry, I just can't help but mention... The Times needs a more astute editor. Check out that headline... no apostrophe in "Drakes"... and "decesed" misspelled. Please don't take offense... it just tickled me.

I was finally able to listen to the podcast. Wow! What a powerfully touching tribute! I especially liked the part about emerging from the egg, drying off his feathers, and learning to fly. And, what beautifully expressed descriptions of life growing up in the Drake home... and what it became after Nick's death. Thanks so much, Tim, for sharing this!

Hey guys, I just found this on the Bryter Music website:
"Nick Drake’s forthcoming album, Family Tree, is coming later than originally planned. The album, due this month, has been pushed back slightly to July 9th in the UK and July 10th in the US due to delays in the intricate packaging, which features a 24-page book and never-seen-before Drake Family photos."
Kind of a bummer, but the wait won't be too long. I did like that it was originally planned to come out on his birthday.

Okay... so the Tim Buckley "My Fleeting House" DVD has completely rocked my world!!! OMG you guys must see the bonus feature of Larry Beckett reading his story on how he came to write "Song to the Siren"... it is gorgeous!!! And, Lee Underwood is sending me an autographed copy of his biography entitled "Blue Melody"... ain't that the coooooolest??? (Forgive the edit... but meant to add... I've ordered the autographed book off Lee's website... didn't mean to imply that there was anything more special. But, I still think it's pretty cool
).
Peace,
Jules

WOW, John, I didn't think there was anyone who actually saw Nick Drake live! Adding up with your many Cohen concerts... I believe you are about the more enviable man on earth right now.

Hey Simon,
Thanks for the post! Been a while, thought this one had died. BTW, you lucky dog Nick's Family Tree will be out inthe UK tomorrow!!!! I must wait til Tuesday. Agree with you on the Tom Waits... not familiar with John Martyn's music, however. Will check out the acousticsmith link. Funny you mention Tim's Greetings From L.A. ... don't have that one yet, but Larry Beckett rather dissed it on the My Fleeting House DVD. I've likely heard some songs from it on my 2 disc compilation. And, someone recently sent me an mp3 of Get On Top... not sure which album that's from. You didn't mention Nick Cave in your full house scenario... not a fan, then? Many aren't, just curious. Funny, someone on YouTube said if only I liked Morrissey in addition to Cohen and Drake, "the trio would be complete"... not so much a Morrissey fan, but... the Smiths back in the day, YEAH baby!
Peace,
Julia

So... Family Tree!!!! Anyone else have it, yet??? OMG it's brilliant! I guess it's had mixed critical reviews, but I think it's the greatest thing I've heard in a long time!!! Beautiful... and so meaningful to hear previously unreleased recordings! And, even with Molly and Gabrielle singing! Gorgeous. Your thoughts?

Julia,
I received this cd just this morning by post and am listening as I write. When you consider these were 'private' recordings, well, the sound quality is fantastic. His guitar playing really is superb; fabulous covers of Bert Jansch and Jackson C Frank.Beautiful!

Julia,
Simon earlier referred to John Martyn. You may already know - John Martyn was a friend of
Nick Drake's and wrote the song 'Solid Air' about him.The album 'Solid Air' is really worth a listen if you can get hold of it.

Re: Listen Up Nick Drake and Tim Buckley Fans!!
Like you,I'm not really at the stage to choose one favourite track, but I do like 'Tomorrow is a long time' -with the clink of glasses/bottles in the background! You can imagine him singing into his tape recorder while family life goes on around him.
Similarly,'Strange meeting 2' -forgets words and laughs.
He does great covers of 'Strolling down the highway' (Bert Jansch),'Blues run the game' and 'Milk & Honey' (Jackson C Frank).
