LIMERICK
Said Adam to Eve: "I'm beguiled;
With sorrow my visage is piled.
In a flash of despair
I have just grown aware
That I never shall have been a child".
With sorrow my visage is piled.
In a flash of despair
I have just grown aware
That I never shall have been a child".
The Ogre does what ogres can,
Deeds quite impossible for Man,
But one prize is beyond his reach:
The Ogre cannot master speech.
Deeds quite impossible for Man,
But one prize is beyond his reach:
The Ogre cannot master speech.

Said Eve to Adam: “I’m blamed
and I shall forever be shamed
I took a serpent’s word
then fell on my own sword
But I maintain I was framed”

There lived a snake in an apple tree
"Come eat," he cried, "you can surely trust me!"
Eve was bored
and bit the core
So if you've ever worn clothes, thank She.

The Snake's not Inconsiderable Justification
Said the snake after all - "You are goin'
To feel there is gratitude owin'
To me, as you'll see
Thanks to Will that is Free,
You'll eventually have Leonard Cohen"

At a tangent to the creation of limericks
As the great Twain observed:
Anyone know a publisher who is desperate to produce a book of silly religious limericks?
Doesn't hurt to ask.

Adam was but human - this explains it all. He did not want the apple for the apple's sake, he wanted it only because it was forbidden. The mistake was in not forbidding the serpent; then he would have eaten the serpent.

Touché, David, twice over, both for contents and for keeping the meter and rhyming in both your limericks. I wish I could come up with an adequate response, but as this is not my native language, it’s not easy.
I don’t know of such a publisher you're looking for, but I hope you can find one. And I also hope that some day the mystery will be solved: how did the biblical “fruit” become an “apple”? (Some speculations are mentioned here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_of_th ... f_the_tree)

Idea
:
It was the first tree that G~d created, so being a fruit-bearing one, the apple was the only food item available. I like the idea of Adam's having eaten the snake, instead
. Twain was absolutely right.
Okay... now, I'll go read Wikipedia for some serious thoughts .
Sherry ~ I also like yours and your hsssssssses, too
!
By the way, David, couldn't ask for a better punchline from the snake's say
.

A serpent who lived in an orchard
was happy' til things became awkward
a couple moved in
minus original sin
until the serpent gave her one.
