Dairy farming is as cruel as livestock farming in many ways. To produce milk at the pace that today's factory farms require, a female cow is kept pregnant constantly, without a break, so the milk is always flowing. In addition to this repeated artificial insemination, the hormones and antibiotics fed to the cow (ironically neccessary on the crowded farms to keep disease partially out of the dairy supply). These constant invasions of the bovine's systems work to send her to an early death.

A dairy cow that has died or is no longer able to perform as a milk producer is slaughtered and used as cheap beef. Any offspring of a dairy cow is exploited as well, with the females continuing the cycle of dairy production and the male calves being slaughtered for veal.

Have you ever listening to Cohen's his Song of Isaac, is this your connection between your works and this music. Also the Butcher, with I ham what I ham.

Dairy Farmer

You have not only confirmed my decision to go Vegan but, after your striking description of the exploitation of animals, I feel sure that others will join me.

JTS

P.S. I have sent a link to this page to the Vegan society - I'm sure your words will make for wonderful publicity

There is almost no connection betweenn the work of Leonard Cohen, the reason we are here, may I remind you, not for irrelevancies, and that of Suzanne- but if you want to go Vega that is up to you.

In the same way as I am entitled to earn my living by killing animals and then selling their dead bodies and waste products.

I don't think anyone has a right to free speech unless they have been getting up at 5 every morning just to deal with old cows.

......and, of course, I feel they have a right to free speech if they lie in bed all day and do nothing....such is the nature  .

Lucky Lizzytish to be able to laze around all day and do no work, to have inherited wealth is just luck for you- it does not, repeat NOT, entitle you to a greater amount of free speech than those who rise at 5 am to work the land.

"they have a right to" = one thing
"entitle you to a greater amount of" = another

Exactly so. I also agree that ordinary people should have certain amount of free speech, workers-particulalryl toilers of the soil, should have more, and those who have inherited wealth- none at all or very little.

The only pig I would ever farm is a Capitalist Pig.

I would probably have to confirm this with DNArew but are you by any chance a descendant of Napoleon?

Hi

let me introduce myself. My name is Lucy. I am a big Leonard fan. I have been reading this forum and others for a while and have been following this threa but not really understanding it at all!

Do I get the last post right, that a guy called John has some sort of Napoleonic complex , hence he is known as John The Shorts?

If I am way off beam, please elucidate,

tia

Welcome to the forum Lucy,

Some of our threads do wander off and can be a bit hard to follow....I'm sure you'll get used to us and enjoy both reading and contributing.
I think you misunderstood the last post , which is JTS ( full handle John the shorts) addressing Dairy Farmer (DF) and comparing DF to Napoleon. If I've got it wrong JTS will correct me. If you want to find the explanation of why he is known as JTS click on "posts by John the Shorts"

Best wishes, Margaret

Shwmae Lucy

Welcome to the forum. I hope your stay here is enjoyable. As Margaret has said the threads start of on quite a narrow topic but then expand and wander around the topic in the shape of a hyperbola.

The thread for discussion of my name (amongst others) is viewtopic.php?t=833 unfortunately it has nothing to do with any Emperors.

Maybe It may be a reference to Half Man Half Biscuit too?

JTS (Although that's a reference to Animal Farm anyway)
