A reflective toast

Post by Granty »

So we raise our glasses
To this gambler who lost a fortune chasing one
A social worker who became insane nursing others to sanity
A persuasive optimist who lost hope
The maker of cutting remarks who remembered insults received as a child
A brilliant writer of a mounting collection of unpublished work
To his fight against buying a dog and the years afterwards that Buddy slept on his bed
A man who was never wrong in any argument
A philanthropist who donated little if any
This man who deplored consumerism but proudly wore labeled clothes received as gifts
A hater of the daily grind who rarely sat still on days off
An environmentalist who drove a car with a faulty muffler
The finder of happiness in love who got worked up over nothing
To his murderous thoughts about anyone standing in the way of peace
A man who could smell a hypocrite at a distance yet not his own scent
To the days of sex-mad thoughts which were followed by him not being bothered at night
A man whose strong political convictions were stifled by pre-election promises
A habitual list maker as this piece illustrates
Not one to suffer fools, he often acted one
To the times he complained about having to listen to people whinge
A lover of the outdoors who rarely spent more than two nights a year camping
To his great ability to juggle numerous sports all at the press of a button
To years spent exhausted and over-worked driven by memories of time out of work
So let’s bottom our glasses and look at each other in the mirror

A reflective toast, indeed, with very illuminating and interesting details.

ALL I ASK

All I ask

All I ask of a woman is that she shall feel gently towards me.
when my heart feels kindly towards her,
and there shall be the soft.soft tremor as of unheard bells between us.
It is all Iask.
I am so tired of violent women lashing out
and insisting on being loved,

when there is no love in them.

dont no who wrote it but its just how Ifelt when i learned it

Hi Jimbo ~

This doesn't seem so much to ask, does it :) ?
. . . there shall be the soft.soft tremor as of unheard bells between us . . .
I love this as a description of presence and feeling... gentle and beautiful, soft.soft tremor of unheard bells. A wonderful example of how beauty is in the spaces.

How long ago did you learn it? Do you remember?
