Coldblooded
We've been together for eight years.
She is my companion
I've provided for her needs
Some would say she's just kept.
I enjoy her content ways
as she snuggles onto my arms
especially on cold days.
She receives my warmth
and when she has all she wants
she tends to wander off
(regardless of how I feel)
as snakes do.

Inspired by Leonard Cohen's words: "And where, where is my Gypsy
wife tonight?"
Coldblooded
Yes, I loved the twist of it, too, Steven... when I first read it, it seemed a bit odd for you to call a woman a snake. If I'd considered further, though, I might not have required that the writer indicate the punchline, for me to get it
. It's so ALL RIGHT THERE, from the title on... once you realize [duh
]. Clever the way you double-entendred everything.

Adam,
Never named her. She eats mice and rats, which would comprise most
of her diet were she in the wild. I exercise her by providing climbing
opportunities, my arms, which to her might be somewhat the
equivalent of moving trees or branches. (She also self-exercises
by climbing about her enclosure.)
Thanks for the invitatiion to write more, though no idea if this poem
being taken to be "very different" is a good thing.
