I like your choice VERY much, Zoe, I'd sign it also (particularly TNS choice:-). Including Jazz Police (which I still prefer in live version from Austin City Limits 1988 show - it's hilarious).

Welcome to the Forum, Mahdy... the Bangladeshi music you mentioned elsewhere sounds very good. How did you become acquainted with Leonard's music?

ahh!! thanx Lizzy..... i'll tell u more about Bangladeshi music if u want......

and about ur question:........ there's a band named "Shironamhin" (headingless/without title) in our country... [ http://www.shironamhin.com ] ... Zia is the lyrisist of that band ... he first told me about Leonard Cohen...... & according to him Leonard Cohen is a great lyrisist ........ as he said once "..... i am really jelous with this guy that i can't write like this! this guy is an awsum lyrist...i simply love & envy him. ".......... but the truth is that most of the people of our country are not acquainted with Leonard's music yet.........

I'm narrowing down a list. It's at 42 right now. That may be the best I can do. Maybe I should pick a best one per album. It's a strategy.

The deeper and darker the better:

1. Stranger Song ( Reminds me of a fellow they used to call St. Range because he was saintly and plenty strange. RIP).
2. If it Be Your Will (The Protestant Hymnal never sounded quite this sincere).
3. Famous Blue Raincoat ( Truly blue , dismal as rain and beautiful)
4. Hallelujah ( Spirituality and sexuality arfully mingled).
5. Who By Fire ( Makes the Hebraic liturgy interesting and contemporary)
6. Avalanche ( Superbly mingles grandiosity and self-abasement)
7. Please Don't Pass Me By ( One we can all sing along with.)
8. Seems So Long Ago, Nancy ( A compassionate warning to all the Nancys present and to be.
9. By the Rivers Dark ( Its unsolvable mystery allows for repeated listenings)
10. The Future ( Clever and funny and optimistic for Cohen.)
