new work...

Post by stoneange »

You wrote me a letter – “To my dearest friend”.
I get so few letters these days.
Most seem to find thinking of words for more than the moment
to be such unprofitable waste.

I think of you writing alone at your desk
The rice paper skin of your hands.
The veins of your life barely hidden
A treasure in slender blue strands.

Wild silver hair that is your constant pride
veils your face like thin theatre smoke.
Pale icy eyes of eternal forgiveness
come shining right out of your note.

I dream of us sometimes
we walk holding hands.
A bright violet sky full of angels and light,
always the violent orange sand.

You speak to me freely of concepts of God
Your vision a colorful comforting phrase.
I know that you know that I do not believe
but my doubts never get in your way.

I wish there was more to my soul than there is.
I wish I were just more like you.
It hurts to know time sinks it’s claws in your heart.
It’s worse knowing you’re frightened too.

Dear Stoneange ~

Thank you for this very moving poem, which I won't dissect by pulling out lines for examination. I'll just leave it untouched in its beautiful whole.

Writing letters is such a rarity these days, and receiving them seems even more. I hope it helps for you to know that whatever you see in your friend that stirs your feelings of inadequacy; that what your friend sees in you is so substantial as to compel the feelings and words "my dearest" ~ we don't always know how much we are known, needed, or appreciated. Thankfully, a precious few share it with us in remembrances; yours is a lasting reminder on rice paper.

Your friend is as aware of time's claim on us as you are... I'm glad you have your letter of gratitude.

"...dearest friend", I love that. The fear of knowing anothers fear, beautiful. Thank you Stoneange, its lovely to see compassion and beauty spread throughout a work and definitely lifts my spirits. Hope you are travelling well!
James.

fear's good.
embrace it, absorb it, move through it
"it's this that the darkness is for"
lady midnight.

and then you'll know :!: and you will find your peace.
