You've obviously not visitted South Wales where what was once a Green and Pleasant Land has become an ocean of suffering humanity where people live a hand to mouth existence with little or no hope of eswcape.

John, you're right. I have not visited South Wales, but I was aware of the terrible ocean you mention, and please take it for granted that I didn't want to repaint an idyll where hardships ought to be named.
Since you obviously recognized the side reference to Richard Llewellyn: The final sentence of his novel runs "How green was my valley then, and the valley of them that have gone" which is arguably sentimental, but definitely a hint to a lost past. I had that in mind, when I alluded to both the novel and the movie.
My concern in the post you quoted was that the war, and the ongoing discussions (or is "verbal wars" the more adequate description?), might lead some to be expatriated from this forum, and I don't want it that on remembering we might be led to finish with a sentence similar to the one quoted above.
Thank you for bringing me back to the fact that there are more scandals than this war, and more permanent ones, and more important things than our idiosyncrasies.

I can understand your anger, but I am glad you decided to come.
The people you are going to meet there are different and you know that.
And the reason of our meeting in NY is very special.
We don't go there because of America, but we will go there for the LC event and to stay with our same minded friends....just think of that and you won't have further doubts

Since discovering LC over two years ago and having been visiting this board for almost as long, I have decided not to go to the NY event also. If Leonard Cohen himself were there I would brave all odds however, but he is not so I have no desire to go. The reasons I am not going is to avoid the same thing that is going on, on this board.

This is a free wonderful country and I encourage any and all to come. Lizzytysh and others can even organize a anti Bush, anti whatever you please rally and march in the streets, and have nothing to fear.

However that is exactly what I want to avoid.

Well, Linda.....as I'm recalling, your position has been from the beginning that you didn't think you were going to go [possibly even be able to go]. Your next-to-last paragraph thoroughly confuses me....does it relate to the 2004 Event or The Great Event?

If you think that what has occurred on this Board is going to carry over to N.Y. in 2004, you're basing your decision on the wrong criteria, and are going to miss a wonderful time. I witnessed enough of the ng to know that if anything hostile were predictable, that would have been the case with Hydra, yet all reports were that people got along great and had an incredible and memorable time. Speaking for myself, I have no interest in debating anything at the upcoming event. As one might say, "this is neither the time nor the place."

I believe we will all be pretty focused as to our various reasons for attending [Leonard's music and poetry, Perla Batalla, meeting each other, seeing Leonard's old stomping ground, seeing New York, etc.], and none will involve carrying the Forum debates to the various N.Y. Event environments. However, as we sit amidst the fear, trepidation, concern, and caring about what is happening to people worldwide at this very moment ~ while we sit safely at our computers [at least the majority of us], discussing and debating the war on this Forum is not inappropriate.

I for one would like to see Linda in New York. We could have a shootout on one of those bridges at dawn. The two Paulas could be our 'seconds' and at the drop of a rather grubby, but pleasantly smelling, lady's handkerchief, we could hurl cream buns at each other. The winner would be the one who hits the other without damaging the cherry on top.

I do like a cherry on my cream buns.

Lizzytysh you weren't at the Hydra event! And quite frankly I would have loved to have been there. You will be at the New York event and quite frankly I don't want to be there, for that reason. Your anti-Bush campaign on this board was totally out of place in my opinion, a disagreement on the war was one thing but you and your political agenda is something else. Bizaarre actually. I am not going to take a chance at putting up with you where I can't turn you off by pushing a button.

Oh my G..d, Linda.....this is the honesty I have been seeking from the beginning with you. The truthful hurling of animosities that you've struggled so to contain, thinly veiled is how I've referred to them. Congratulations on finally opening up.

By the way, where did you see that I said I was at the Hydra event? If anyone knows that, no one better than I ~ but thanks for the clarification, anyway, lest I get confused. Unless you delete your post, it will remain here for future reference, just in case I should need to be reminded ~ "No, Lizzytysh, you were not there."

To say that you are viewing life through blinders at this very moment is an understatement beyond measure. If going to N.Y. is really a sincere wish of yours, for which you will not always use me as a scapegoat of blame for not having done so, I can certainly come to an agreement with you. Once having seen each other, it will be of no problem at all to simply move away, sidestep, turn around, whatever it takes, Linda, to help you feel comfortable. There will be hundreds of people there besides.

Do you really, honestly want me and others to believe that I could have such an impact on you? If so, I'm amazed that you would so quickly and easily relinquish your personal power to me [of all people], someone whom you obviously detest. I will remain amazed, however, that none of your other, reportedly close relationships with others on this Forum are not sufficient to draw you to New York. What does that say for them?

My posting my opinion of why I am not going to the NY event shouldn't have any more impact than the first post on here should it? I can't see where my opinion would effect anyone else from going to the event.
