The lie

the lie

I looked for you
in the echo of my friends’ words
in those moments
in which they no longer spoke

at my father’s and mother’s dying bed
I looked for you
I gathered you close
in the first eyelight of my children

never, though, I met you
never I’ve known you inside

that is why I no longer fear you

I know you do not know me
and I not you

from my dreams
I’ve exiled you
from my hope

your name have I forgotten
like the name of an old doll

and now that I slowly retrieve the child in me
the scent of myrrh and candles dissipates

now that I am farther than I can return
now in my chest the longing stops

and I shake my head now
for all the foolishness you are

that turns you into a lie
day after day

You don't know that at all.

You just want to know more directly
You just want to know
and I suspect you will.
You are certainly looking in the right places
as is outlined in your poetry.

Perhaps you could say

"as I seek You
I know me more
and in knowing me
I stagger to You
I hunger and I thirst
and you offer vinegar
some wine would be good
some wine would be good
some wine..........."

The rest (your questioning) is mystic in the making.
