When,Where,And What Was The First LC Song You Heard?
Late in 1970 in the Co Armagh. A friend had Songs of so the first song I heard was Susanne. I was 16 and "a crazy mixed up kid" I was blown away and have been ever since.
The first concert that I ever went to was LC playing The Stadium in Dublin in 1972 and then I saw him again in Edinburgh in 1979
Would just love to see him again

My first time...
I heard Waiting for the Miracle and The Future in Natural Born Killers. I asked a DJ friend of mine if he knew who the singer was. He made me a copy of LC's Best Of (the one with Suzanne on it) and I couldn't believe it was the same person.
When?: About six weeks ago!!!! (Where have I been? It's not like I wasn't around when his recordings first came out!
)
Where and What Song?: Tuned in to a film called Saint Ralph and ended up mesmerized by the recurring Hallelujah.
Had never heard anything quite like it and had to look into it. Found Leonard Cohen!!
Rather than regretting that I'm such a neophyte, I'm just thrilled to have discovered such a treasure and to have so much to look forward to. I think I have five of his CD's and am trying to hold off a bit to spread out the joy. (Also, to get a chance to figure out the meanings of some of those lyrics!
) Finding this site is another part of the joy for which I am so grateful. I have so much to learn from you bright and entertaining folk, and I'm working on it. Thanks!

Hallelujah!!!
Thank you very much, Neophyte. I appreciate your kindness and words. This Forum is going to amaze you
. This Forum will bring you closer to Leonard than anywhere else on the Net. Be thinking about what you want to say when you wish him Happy Birthday in September. We have a tradition of sending a group greeting [via a thread earmarked for that specifically], composed of individual messages. Jarkko arranged for this, a time when you know Leonard will be reading your words. There are a number of other 'privileges' that we receive, such as being the first ones to view new art, a new poem, a new song, etc. that haven't been published/officially released, yet. You're in for so many treats... you're just not going to believe it. The meaning of his lyrics will keep you going for years. They're structured to last over a person's lifetime.

Really? Is it a coicidence that your avatar picture is from the computer game Baldur's Gate? Just wondering, I used to play that game alot.Fljotsdale wrote:I'm 69.
Anyway, I probably first heard a song by Leonard Cohen sometime between 1988 and 1993, and most likely it was First We Take Manhattan. I was very young (my father used to listen to one of his records.) and for some reason I thought for a long time that Leonard Cohen and David Hasselhoff were the same person. I'm glad that the misunderstanding has been cleared up.

Hi OldBrownShoe ~
You're one of the rare ones who have confused Leonard with anyone else ~ I'm glad you got it cleared up, too. Now, you'll likely never confuse him with anyone else again
.
Your name always reminds me of Leonard's anecdote where he's walking down a street somewhere [Montreal or NYC?] and stops at a shoe repair window. The way he tells it, it's as though his shoes are asking Leonard that they be replaced. It seems like it was his boots, though. I'll need to find it [somewhere
] to get it exactly right, but it's a lovely one. Maybe you've heard it and know exactly the one I mean. Way back, when all I had was five or so records, a couple songbooks, an article [and one of those may be where it's at], and a couple books, it was much easier to go to the source for 'copying' ~ now, unless someone [me?] were to catalog what I have, trying to recall which ones have what is nearly impossible for me. Anyway, if you haven't heard/read it, I know you'd enjoy it.

Today I came upon and studied a World Map and became lost in it... thinking, feeling, anticipating, remembering... where people I've met live, have been, or will be going. Where I have visited, will return again, or have still to go. Where some I'll never meet spend their lives.
All of this visual reverie and expansiveness in my life, pure and simple, the result of Leonard's music and Jarkko's site. Thank you so very much to both of you.
Love,
Lizzy
