Due to bad timing (mid-week, early October), nobody of us from Croatia can go, as we announced in Berlin, nevertheless we have good cheap-flights connections with London/Dublin... Have a good time, all of you!

Look forward to meeting up on Wednesday evening :)

I've just been doing a little web surfing on transport in Dublin.
Kieron, is it a good idea to get a 3 day Freedom Ticket ? For 25 euros it seems to cover everything, or am I looking at out of date information?

Hi Margaret,
The Dublin Pass is probably the best one to get. It gives you access to most attractions includes coach transfers from the airport to the city.

Have a look at http://www.dublinpass.ie/dublinpass/

When you arrive in the airport, as you come out of baggage reclaim, there is a Tourist office beside the bar that is closest to you on the left.
They will be able to sell you the Dublin Pass and advise on the Freedom tickets. I am not sure what the Freedom ticket involves.

See you in the Harbourmaster at 6 on wednesday. Drop me a mail if you want my mobile while you are here. When do you arrive?

Hi Kieron,

My flight arrives in Dublin from Liverpool at 11.45 but I will wait until Diane gets there at 12.35 from Cardiff, and provided there are no major delays for either of us we will meet at the Tourist desk and make our way to the hotel together.

See you soon,
Margaret

It is possible that I have two extra tickets to the first concert on Wednesday (section B). Please contact me ASAP if you are looking for
tickets!!!! (We will fly to Dublin early on Tuesday morning and I will
not be online after that!)

I also possibly have an extra ticket for Block A (row EE), if anyone is interested or one ticket for Thursday (Block D).

Jarkko I don't think you'll have any problems trying to sell your 2 tickets when you get there. Both nights are sold out. The few tickets that were left up to now were all "singles" so two tickets together is a big plus.

Sure am looking forward to the reports. Been listening to nothing but Anjani all day, and reading their Blue Alert lyrics on its insert.

Recited the shortest poem ever to a co-worker-friend today, as I knew how applicable it is to her current/upcoming situation.
You go your way...
I'll go your way, too.
She said, "That poem is really nice... what are you trying to do to me, Elizabeth?" I saw her eyes tear up as she said it. I want to tell her how truly rare and unlikely it is that she'll find another man like the one she's with, until he moves to be near his young daughter. I have 30+ years more of observation than she does telling me so.

Next, I'll be copying the lyrics to Blue Alert for her, and after that, I hope I'll be able to play it for her... it takes very little mention of her situation before she's tearing up, so references to it are necessarily brief. Right now, she doesn't want to do or think about anything more than she has to, as it'll just make her cry. When she said it seems like they've come to some kind of unspoken agreement, I mentioned the lyrics "Wondering if / We've come to some sort / Of agreement."

I can't wait to hear about Dublin 8) .

what a let down that concert was, margaret o'hara sounded like a harpy and murdered a deut of halleujah, she made an appalling attempt at 2 songs after the interval, i dont think she even knew what she was singing, i certainly didnt.

The concert got off to an excellent start with nick cave singing avalanche, this was an omen of the avalanche of dross that followed, Lou Reed started signing then played with his amp and screamed over it to finish one of us cant be wrong, the handsome family made a decent effort of 1000 kisses deep and famous blue raincoat, whoever was signing dear heather was appalling.

i cant believe i forked out €150 ($190, £100) for this concert, barring nick cave, the handsome family and to a point gravis cocker I wouldnt watch this concert again if it were free at the top of my street.

my (non LC fan) girlfriend told me that if cohen wasnt dead he was certainly murdered at that concert.... very very disappointing imho

I'm sorry to hear you were so disappointed, Big-al. Hopefully, tomorrow night's performance will be better. Many people have traveled for this with great hopes.

What about Anjani? Did she not sing? Was she slated for one night only?

I was there for the marathon of Leonard fest that was "Came so far" in Dublin also. I cannot wait for the second performance tonight.

I must disagree with big-al. I though it was a fantastic night. Yes there were some performances that were less than perfect, principally Dear Heather by Laurie Anderson, but that was her take on it. Mary Margaret was "interesting" but I would also fault Gavin Friday on that performance.
I liked the experimental edge to the show and particularly the performance of less well heard songs, Avalanche, Death of a ladies Man, etc.

Nick Cave, Beth Orton, Perla, Julie, The Handsomes, Anthony, Teddy & Helena?, Anjani, Jarvis and even Lou on Joan of Arc with Julie and Stranger song were all fabulous in my opinion. The band were brilliant, very few of the performaners put a foot wrong all night.

I thought the second half of this monster of a performance, over three hours long, was out of this world. Much braver and better than Brighton. I cannot wait for tonite's performance.

Highlights for me were Teddy making "Tonite will be fine" his own with Perla and Julie, Anthem by Perla and Julie, Bird on a wire by Perla, Avalanche by Nick, Chelsea Hotel by Jervis, everything the Handsome Family did, Everything Beth Orton did, Lou and Julie doing "Joan of Arc",

And yes Lizzy, Anjani was great. Note and picture perfect. You were missed in the pub beforehand. You would have loved the show.

Thanks, Kieron. Your review is a huge relief... I cannot imagine anyone complaining about Julie and Perla... and Anjani's performance should have been lauded right up front ~ at least from what I've seen ~ in person and on film... all three 8) !

Obviously, if Leonard was there, he remained behind the scenes. Not such a bad idea, given that he plans to tour ~ and for the "Came So Far for Beauty" performances, I feel it's good for people to attend for the 'right' reasons... not just hoping that Leonard will show.

I would still love to see Nick Cave, Lou Reed, and many of the others in person. I would probably really appreciate Laurie Anderson's "Dear Heather" take, too. A quirky song to begin with... and Laurie a bit quirky herself. I can hardly imagine the result ~ but suspect I'd love it. Saw Laurie in person several years back and loved everything she did there!

Is this Jarkko's first time for seeing Anjani sing in person from Blue Alert?

Thanks for missing me, Kieron :) . I believe I'd have loved the show, too, and would have loved being there... I blew it by not attending it in NYC ~ even so, I'd have missed Anjani :( . I'll probably just have to wait to see her in different 'combination' 8) .

Thanks for your report :D ~ I was beginning to wonder if we were going to have to find a way to package the Berlin performers and send them on tour ~ so they could represent 8) ! You would've really enjoyed this year's show there, too... where I also missed you.

Enjoy tonite :D ~ I know you will 8) .

I must have been at a different concert then Kieron :)

Personally I thought the sound was dreadful, I was sitting in the tiers in block B, that said i dont rate the point much as a venue.

I would agree that the second half of the performance of the concert was an improvement on the first half however as I was at the back you could see a significant minority leaving the concert from about 2330 onwards. The completely ridiculous performance of dear heather sent my girlfriend into convulsions of laughter much to the annoyance of some people around us, but I noticed it had the same affect on one or two more. I understand that everyone has their own take on the songs but if you compared this concert to the albeit recorded performance of the I'm your man CD, then came so far for beauty was a poor second. I have heard many versions of hallelujah that was by far the worst one i've heard.

That said I'm glad you enjoyed it and i hope you enjoy it again tonight but for me the next LC concert i go to will be by the man himself! :) (god willing!)

Hi Big-al ~

What was Laurie's take on "Dear Heather"? Are you able to describe how it was that she did it? I'm seriously interested. Thanks.
