Well I went ahead and bought Stumble into Grace a few days back. ELH's songwriting is quite a revelation on this CD (on a number of songs she shares songwriting credit with Kate & Anna McGarigle) - I never thought of her as a songwriter but she writes with clarity and conciseness mostly about love and lost love but deftly avoids cliche. She says in the liner notes "songwriting does not come easily to me". Also her melodies are quite distinct. (but what happened to her on All the Roadrunning??? must be Knopfler....)
Thanks for the recommndations - I'll be on the lookout for Wrecking Ball and Cowgirls Prayer for later on.
Surfing the web I found ELH singing If I Needed You by Townes Van Zandt on youtube. And watch out for the ghost of TVZ come back from the dead at the end....

p.s. and I agree , she is a very beautiful and elegant lady.
Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris
Hi Kush... really pleased to hear of your new acquistion! Still liking it? ELH has often performed with The McGarrigle sisters. Check out "The McGarrigle Hour" cd, if you don't know of it already. Really a fun record. ELH is mostly in the background, but the record holds up on it's own, for those of us who like that sort of thing (speaking for myself, of course) The Martha Wainwright version of Allez Vous En, all by itself, is worth the entire cd.
ELH doing "If I Needed You" is one I really like.. you can also find that TVZ great on her "Duets" cd, performed with Don Williams.. a really fine version. Honestly, you can pick up almost any ELH cd and not be disappointed.
Well, we disagree on Lucinda.. but.. so what... ? :--)

BTW.. thanks for the link. Really enjoyable.
