Cohen Kid new lyric

Post by Cohen Kid »

I made a new one... It was inspired by sitting at the bar saturday with the drummer of my band... He was a little down, and when we spoke he said: 'I've been thinking of happiness..." and that it's hard to define and get hold of, or describe... And if I could write a song about all this...
So the next day and yesterday I started writing and this came out of that. I'm curious to what you might think. By the way, the story is not about me, or someone I know, it's more reflecting a sort of feeling, maybe, or something that could have happened to someone... Hey, and (I sometimes do that) there's a little Cohen link in there ;) hehehehe... it's something to do with watching the boats go by, sitting by the water ;) hehehehe.... I hope leonard won't be angry with me

About Happiness – the oxford miners

(the verses are spoken)
I hadn't seen you in about 8 years, and I'm saying that I missed you,
when in fact I don't think that I thought of you that much at all really
But I do still recall being here before.
I remember the smell of summer evenings,
though I can't remember that phone shop being there.
Still it's funny seeing the same boats drifting by, the same skyline,
the same cars passing by and the same doubt in your eyes
I stare, and you just sit there, talking, talking, chatting away the hours
And I am thinking about happiness...

(chorus, sung)
Some may feel
Like a beggar in a rich mans' home
Or safely keeping their dreams
Like a precious stone
Some may feel
Like a dog on the loose
Keeping their dreams
For future times, some day soon...

And now you're showing me a picture you made, when we first met
It's a picture of the two of us by the sea...
I smile, but it doesn't mean that much to me.
And so I left. I crossed the road, the asphalt river, leading the cars to the horizon,
and heading up to the stars. I crossed the road, ignoring all traffic lights.
Then I noticed I must have lost my keys somewhere around here,
but I don't start looking...
I keep walking until the city behind me is no more than an enemy left behind
I suppose I've always felt kind of guilty about being there
Between the cars and the mansions and shops that were dying for my attention
I bought it all, thinking of happiness...

After walking for about 2 hours
the reasons for which I started walking in the first place
suddenly became quite unclear to me, so I decided to head back home.
The girl must probably still be there, waiting by the sea... Waiting for me to come back.
It's not the first time I let someone down, and this time won't be the last, I suppose...
On my way back, I walked past all the shops of our little town, felt the sun on my face...
This world's got so much to offer,
but I've got things on my mind...
I'm at my door. It's the house I've been living in for so long,
but for a moment it feels like it could be anyone's home.
I want to open the door, and then I remember losing my keys, sometime earlier...
the bloody things...

Some may feel
Like a beggar in a rich mans' home
safely keeping their dreams
Like a precious stone
Some may feel
Like a dog on the loose
Keeping their dreams
For future times, some day soon...
A sip of wine, a cigarette
And then it's time to go
I tidied up the kitchenette
I tuned the old banjo

interesting. do you write the music as well? it would be good to hear your stuff as opposed to reading it.

Thanks for the reply
Yes I write music too myself... Next week I'll be recording 3 songs on my own, for my first solo single, but I've also got a band, and I'm intending to use this lyric for my band. I've already written some music, to which I think this would suit very well... But it's the very beginning of practising the song, so it's certainly not recorded. But I'll put it on the site when it is recorded!!
