Hi Secretchord ~

You're right that there are at least a 'fair' number of people here who write songs. They, no doubt, would love for Leonard to hear, listen to, record, comment upon, or whatever other possibility there might be, their songs. However, I seriously doubt if many ~ if any ~ have actually sent him demos.

That's simply because at this point in his life ~ and, perhaps, other points in the past, as well ~ Leonard is just too busy trying to write, record, publish, and soon promote, his own stuff... not to mention everything he's done and will be doing to assist Anjani... and having starred in the film "I'm Your Man." His dear friend, Irving Layton, recently died, and that meant a trip to Montreal, in addition to the ones he made previously, to visit him. These are related to only the artistic side of his life. Add to that, his relationships with his son and daughter, friends, Roshi, spiritual practices in India, etc. ... and you'll see a packed-out schedule that simply doesn't allow for taking in what other people, unknown to him, are doing in the recording realms.

That's not to say that no one understands your desire in this regard. They surely do. The likelihood of Leonard being able to do much, if anything, that would be considered satisfying for you, is limited, though. Somewhere on Jarkko's site is the address of Leonard's new management company. Anything to be sent to him would go through there. However, in looking for that address [and I'd tell you where it's at, if I could remember where Jarkko has listed it], read about all of Leonard's, other activities and plans ~ and you'll see what I mean. [Browsing through the News section here will help in getting that bigger picture, too.] Busy beyond belief  . You can imagine how committed he is to getting his own goals accomplished 8) .

None of this is intended to put you off, but rather provide an overview that is NO DOUBT lacking in many details ~ like the intense, legal situation regarding Kelley Lynch that he's having to deal with, in addition to everything else he's doing.

Welcome to the Forum, Secretchord :D . If you stick around, you'll learn a whole lot about Leonard's life and goings-on.

Hi Secretchord,

the address you are looking for is given at the "Authors, visitors, credits" page of http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com. To cut it short, I quote the relevant passage:
Mail to Mr. Leonard Cohen
or his management
should be addressed to:

Macklam Feldman Management
1505 West 2nd Avenue Suite 200
Vancouver, BC
Canada V6H 3Y4

And emails to leonardinfo@mfmgt.com
I do well understand your desire of having LC's comment on your work; it is the problem of any artist to be recognized and focused on. Yet, the "great" (I'm not quite sure if LC would count himself with them) are always sort of overwhelmed by samples of other people's productions - I fear they often do not really know why it is them that could judge.
Just imagining what LC's answer might be, the following comes to my mind: Just show/read/play it to the people around you, first to your friends who'll honestly help you improve, then start with small performances to familiar audiences, and so on. "Sow the seed, and let it grow."

Wishing you success and inspiration,

monk

Leonard's office has always been overwhelmed with books of poetry, novels, demo discs etc. etc. from artists, young or old, who want him to read/listen and give his comments. It's not possible - reviewing hundreds of such samples every year would leave no time for his own work. So, to be honest, it's useless to send any demos or other samples.

thanks for your replies, they're all pretty much what I would expect myself but I just thought I'd sound it out

I guess we all like to think 'but if Leonard just heard my stuff...'

Whoops... I stand corrected. I honestly thought that the people here somehow 'knew better' than to send their stuff to Leonard. Or, Jarkko's comment may have meant the general, worldwide population, excluding those who frequent this site. But, then, how would anyone know, either way  ? Well, I guess they could say, "I'm an LC Files Forum member, and I'm hoping you'll . . . " .

Well, at least it's settled for you, Secretchord... and, yes, I agree that many, no doubt, feel "If only... "

What about letters?

Does anyone know if Leonard is accepting of just ordinary letters?
I wouldn't be anticipating a response or anything, but do you think he reads them?

I'm a young fan, but I love him dearly and it would be quite cathartic to send him a letter and know that he read my words.

Hi Vauxhall ~

I think that might come under the "etc., etc., etc." in Jarkko's posting ~ at least at this point in time. I recall reading somewhere recently that he reads all his fan mail, but that may have referred to an earlier time. It's hard to square that image with the image of him trying to accomplish all he needs to do.

Jarkko said it all, I think. New management in Vancouver tok over all the correspondence, so you can send a letter or gift to their adress. I am sure they will proceed it if it's important, and answer you in any case.

What about the following, Secretchord:

Why not sort of create your own private website, put some samples of your music there and tell us, the forum members? I mean, of course it's not "Himself" who is going to listen to them, but it might be useful for you to receive the critics of some devoted Cohenists...

Just a thought that came to my mind.

(In fact, I would be interested in what you put forth, choosing that particular username and signature.)

a website is certainly in my thinking

in the next few weeks I'll have a 'finished' version of my album which I then plan to release myself and see what happens from there

thanks for your interest, I'll let you know what develops
