Dedicated to Voo and Boss

Post by lizzytysh »

A V ~ a double o
A B ~ an o ~ a double s...
An l, an o, a double s...
that you are gone.

Hoping you'll stop by and read this. It reminds me of you, both of you; nothing to do with anyone's, particular assessment of quality, but with your absence as a result of someone's assessment of quality. As in the song, a sad loss that your voices are silent here. Hoping to see you both return soon.

Mister Tanner was a cleaner from a town in the Midwest.
And of all the cleaning shops around he'd made his the best.
But he also was a baritone who sang while hanging clothes.
He practiced scales while pressing tails and sang at local shows.
His friends and neighbors praised the voice that poured out from his throat.
They said that he should use his gift instead of cleaning coats.

But music was his life, it was not his livelihood,
and it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good.
And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul.
He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole.

His friends kept working on him to try music out full time.
A big debut and rave reviews, a great career to climb.
Finally they got to him, he would take the fling.
A concert agent in New York agreed to have him sing.
And there were plane tickets, phone calls, money spent to rent the hall.
It took most of his savings but he gladly used them all.

But music was his life, it was not his livelihood,
and it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good.
And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul.
He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole.

The evening came, he took the stage, his face set in a smile.
And in the half filled hall the critics sat watching on the aisle.
But the concert was a blur to him, spatters of applause.
He did not know how well he sang, he only heard the flaws.
But the critics were concise, it only took four lines.
But no one could accuse them of being over kind.

(spoken) Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his
Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately
his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards.
His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it
consistently interesting.
(sung) Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order.

He came home to Dayton and was questioned by his friends.
Then he smiled and just said nothing and he never sang again,
excepting very late at night when the shop was dark and closed.
He sang softly to himself as he sorted through the clothes.

Music was his life, it was not his livelihood,
and it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good.
And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul.
He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole.

~ "Mr. Tanner" by Harry Chapin

Hi Muddy ~

You're becoming a master of brief postings  . "Ha!" [though not to me] and now "oh god" ~ what could they mean  ? Do you know this song? Do you not know it? If it's that you don't know it, if you did, you'd understand my use of it. Its singing and music make all of its nuances very clear :( .

take it easy, Lizzy. It doesn't have to be serious all the time.

Hi Muddy ~

Yes, I know it doesn't need to be serious all the time. In fact, I tease/joke quite a bit [for me  ]. However, this song and posting were placed here with a very serious intent, as there are two, self-admittedly, rather sensitive people who have been criticized here without reason... and appear to have left. Since the things they were criticized for were things that came from their heart, the song fit very well in more than one way.

When I saw your response [lacking an emoticon  ] ~ I honestly didn't know whether to read it as:

"oh god :D "

"oh god :( "

"oh god  "

"oh god :? "

"oh god 8) "

"oh god  "

"oh god  "

"oh god 8) "

"oh god  "

"oh god  "

The last possibility was the one of greatest concern to me, and the reason I asked. Truthfully, I didn't know whether it was what I'd originally said, or which aspect of my follow-up posting you were saying, "I agree" to, but at that point, just let it go with "oh good" ~ particularly 'better' because it was simply a matter of adding an "o" to "oh god."

Carry on... :)

Harry Chapin was an exquisite storyteller with his songs. I hope you'll be able to find some of his music and will love it as much as I do. He's very sensitive to the inner worlds of feeling from where people make many of their decisions. When he performed, you could hear a pin drop. You will really love "Mr. Tanner" once you hear it... and will understand even more my use of it here. His musicians were also classically trained.

HI. Lizzy....

It's all right. Boss is a great poster.
I wrote a response to one of the Voo poems, without an evil intention, just noticing something. He answered me with a coctel of common places and a lot of egomaniac-like info that wasn't necessary at all. I aswered back and later I realised that that post of mine was removed, i don't know where. And it really pissed me off. I wrote another thread in the Everything Else section but I didn't receive any response that could make me see it through. well, it's all right, I mean it. It's just that I dont like people that are always expecting honours or something.
You know that it's nothing to do with you or with someone else. I have a great time here.

all best, Lizzy.

All best to you, too, Muddy.

By the way, I just noticed that either it's a typo when you wrote it here, or that maybe you're putting the wrong name in on your search engine, but Harry's last name was Chapin vs. Chaplin. You're probably coming up with some Charlie Chaplin links, but not Harry Chapin ones.

thanks for the spelling advices, very useful.

You say either and I say either, You say neither and I say neither
Either, either Neither, neither, Let's call the whole thing off.

You like potato and I like potahto, You like tomato and I like tomahto
Potato, potahto, Tomato, tomahto, Let's call the whole thing off

But oh, if we call the whole thing off Then we must part
And oh, if we ever part, then that might break my heart

So if you like pyjamas and I like pyjahmas, I'll wear pyjamas and give up
pyajahmas
For we know we need each other so we , Better call the whole off off
Let's call the whole thing off.

You say laughter and I say larfter, You say after and I say arfter
Laughter, larfter after arfter, Let's call the whole thing off,

You like vanilla and I like vanella, You saspiralla, and I saspirella
Vanilla vanella chocolate strawberry, Let's call the whole thing off

But oh if we call the whole thing of then we must part
And oh, if we ever part, then that might break my heart

So if you go for oysters and I go for ersters, I'll order oysters and cancel
the ersters
For we know we need each other so we, Better call the calling off off,
Let's call the whole thing off.

I say father, and you say pater, I saw mother and you say mater
Pater, mater Uncle, auntie, let's call the whole thing off.

I like bananas and you like banahnahs, I say Havana and I get Havahnah
Bananas, banahnahs Havana, Havahnah, Go your way, I'll go mine

So if I go for scallops and you go for lobsters, So all right no contest we'll
order lobseter
For we know we need each other so we, Better call the calling off off,
Let's call the whole thing off.

Oh, good... his lyrics [those that are posted, anyway] are good, to read, but much better to hear; but, I guess that's pretty standard, anyway. I hope you get a chance to hear him on record ~ he did in a VW on an expressway some time ago, hit by a MACK truck. A terrible loss.
