Wait, wait Paula#2.....Paula #1 was pro-this-war to begin with. However, she has since expressed some ambivalence about this war and its purposes. She was also anti-war in the 60s. Right, wrong, or otherwise, her position regarding this one came into being as a result of other feelings, which have surfaced since the 60s and in relationship to issues surrounding this one.....or world safety in general. Even so, she has vacillated somewhat on it. I may be expressing this ["her"] in not-totally-accurate fashion, but I'm coming close. The bottom line is that it's unfair to imply or suggest that she's "the aggressive, war-monger one."

I guess you are right. thanks.

Paula (not the vacillating anti-war 40 years ago, but can't make up her mind now, one)

Meanwhile, I'm glad that I understood what you were trying to say [and saying, from the way I read it].

yes, very intuitive and analytical of you, thanks again.

Vacillating Paula said

Paula (the sandwich short of a picnic one). I am not a war mongering, gung ho, agressive person. I do not advocate war just for the sake of it. I am torn with this conflict between the fact sometimes it is better to confront an agressor head on than leave him to his agression on weaker people. It could well be if war does not happened the iraq people might be in a worse state than if it does. I am keeping my powder dry on this one, mainly because I can see both sides of the argument.

ok I understand your weakness and inability to come to a view but that is no reason to talk about sandwiches. this war will be no picinic even for a 60's hippy from bellicose England.

Paula - Why do you keep quoting what has gone before. Do you think we do not have the sense to read it in the original quote.

I am sorry I am not sure if you are on medication or if the medication is not strong enough but I can see no rhyme or reason in your posts.

and I see now why you are so rabidly pro-war, as in personal life so in inter-state dispute...

and I don't need any special mediacation any more at all.

Paula_Hansen,
if Love is your answer, why do you aggressively insult people (calling everybody a warmonger and such niceties more)?

Paula (from London),
I had already said I deem the other Paula's position (in content - following the lines of lizzytysh's explanation) an honorable one. Taking for granted that you are torn between two evils, I won't attack you personally, though I - torn myself - obviously come to a very different conclusion.

However, if we don't want to add another war on top of the one we're discussing, there's no need for an exchange of invectives. This won't help anybody, I guess...

Tom

PS: Being a newbie in this forum myself, I think it is incumbent on you to forgive me, if I happen to misinterpret someone I don't know.

yes I too am puzzled by Paula's need to agressively insult people. although I do not consider you too evil even if you are a newbie.

I presume that London Paula has been inculcated with Blair bellicosity which has eaten her soul by osmosis.

just a thought

when a child reaches for a knife do you :
1)scream and slap the child
2)take away the knife from the child
3)allow the child to have knife

saddam is obviously no child etc...,yet i want to make a point that "love" can be dangerous and not love at all.(option3)

i´ve buried the hatchet on this topic for myself.whatever may be.i hope the outcome of it all is not an ends that justifies a means.if war is nessecary,it wont be the first time.there is nothing new under the sun.

Elazar posed a serious question about knives

2)take away the knife from the child

surely you do a combination of all three. hit the child first very hard to teach her a lesson, then take the knife away, and only then give it back slowly and still keep an eye on her behaviour.

Hi Paula Hansen [PH ~ will that work? ] ~

I'm sure you know, but I'll say it anyway ~ it's really, really easy to get off on the wrong foot on this or any other message board/forum, etc. What one [anyone] is thinking doesn't always come out complete or accurate to what the original thoughts were. Then the spaces get filled in erroneously and things start being said. Misinterpretations are so easy in person, much less in these arenas. It's best to nip it in the bud, if possible [not saying it always is, but it's generally so].

Thanks for your response on the misrepresentation of Paula that you willingly accepted my clarification on. We took a few trips around the track, early on; worked through it; and I really like her. As elazar has said [and Byron's posting regarding his recent trip reenforces], even at the most "insignificant"/least visible levels, caring and kindness and regard for the rights of others are extremely important/essential. On the business card of the acupuncturist/owner of the coffee shop, where I frequent and mentioned elsewhere, beneath her name is printed, "Peace begins in me." Anger/hurt feelings are legitimate responses to some things, by everyone, but I sure hope the wrong foots can turn into right foots.

I like your awareness of Bush's "election" and I agree with your stance on this impending war. Now, am I going to say it's the best poem here? I took that to be your wry humour.
