Covers & Interpretations - Help Yourself

Post by Jim Williams »

I have Sixteen Horsepower's take on The Partisan if anyone would like a copy (it's not by French band, Noir Desir, as I said earlier - although the track does feature the latter's Bertrand Cantat). Just mail me at podwilliams@aol. com and I'll send an MP3 right over to ya. I'm still busy with my Tom Waits cover collection (which is approaching 300 tracks), but I'm sure I'll move on to Cohen more comprehensively soon. No doubt you're all as well-stocked with Cohen covers as as I am Waits ones, but, should you be interested, apart from the I'm Your Fan, Tower of Song and Judy Collins - Democracy collections I also have the following covers and interpretations (updated as and when etc.):

Emmylou Harris - Ballad of the Absent Mare, Buffy Sainte Marie - God is Alive, Magic is Afoot, Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris (with Kate & Anna McGarrigle) - Sisters of Mercy, Joe Cocker - Bird on a Wire & First We Take Manhattan, Bob Dylan - Hallelujah (Montreal, 1988), k.d. lang - Hallelujah & Bird on a Wire, Concrete Blonde - Everybody Knows, Anne Murray - Song of Bernadette, Patricia O'Callaghan - A Singer Must Die, Joan of Arc & Take This Waltz, Ron Sexsmith - Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye, Elisa - Hallelujah, Sirenia - First We Take Manhattan, The Tea Party - Hallelujah, Marianne Faithfull - Tower of Song, Nina Simone - Suzanne (2 versions), The Broken Family Band - Diamonds in the Mine, Lloyd Cole - Famous Blue Raincoat, Hayden - Famous Blue Raincoat, Nana Mouskouri - The Ballad of the Absent Mare, Rufus Wainright - Hallelujah, Allison Crowe - Hallelujah, The Duhks - Everybody Knows, Rufus Wainwright - Chelsea Hotel No. 2, Electrelane - The Partisan, Joan Crowe - Bird on a Wire, Pearls Before Swine - Suzanne, Dead Raven Choir - First We Take Manhattan, Chris Botti - A Thousand Kisses Deep, Madeleine Peyroux - Dance Me To The End Of Love, Jennifer Warnes - Way Down Deep (co-written with Cohen), Diana Ross - Summertime, Roberta Flack - Summertime, Aaron Neville & Linda Ronstadt - Song of Bernadette, Bette Midler - Song of Bernadette and Anne Murray - Song of Bernadette. I also have Cohen's spoken word version of Democracy, as well as his appearance with Tori Amos on Silent All These Years. Finally, for those who don't already have them, I have Cohen's Never Any Good and The Great Event and his duet with Elton John, Born to Lose.
